The sandwiches were good, but the soup was delicious!! I took peoples' recommendations re: adding fresh basil to garnish, and using chicken instead of veggie broth. I added 6 TBSP fresh herbs (oregano, parsley, etc. to the tomatoes before roasting them, and left them in for 45 minutes. The flavor is more concentrated if roasted longer. The roasted tomatoes are also yummy as a side dish as well. In addition, I added 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper, 1/2 c. red wine, 1/4 c. tomato paste, and 1/2 lemon, juiced. The pepper gave it a little kick, and the lemon really brings out the flavor of the soup. I chose not to add the carrots, and omitted the cream and frying of the sandwiches (toasted them instead to make it more heart healthy. This is a definite to make for company!

I haven't made the tomato soup yet but the sandwiches were excellent. The flavor was different because I haven't ever had fontina cheese before. Yummie! The only thing that I changed was the amount of butter. Watching those calories.

The tomato soup and the fontina cheese really compliment each other. I love the rich tomato flavor. The only thing I added which really made the recipe was to add fresh basil to the top of the soup. Yum. Making it again tonight. Gotta like grown-up grilled cheese!

The soup seemed like it was missing something, but overall it was good.

Loved the sandwiches, will make again.

I have been making this soup for a few years now and it is always a favorite. The roasted tomatoes add a special sweetness to this creamy soup. I've give this recipe to many friends. Thanks Bobby!!!!!

This is by far the best tomato soup I have ever tasted! My entire family raved about the soup. I used fresh tomatoes from my garden and I also used a combination of vegetable broth and chicken broth. Two thumbs up!!!!!
