Ingredients

  • 10 Mission figs, stemmed and cut in 1/2
  • Canola oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh ricotta cheese
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1/4 cup melted chocolate
  • Chopped mint leaves, for garnish

Directions

Preheat a grill to medium-high.

Skewer figs, leaving enough room in between, and brush lightly with canola oil. Place figs, cut side down, on grill and cook until brown, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and arrange on a serving platter. Drizzle half the figs with the ricotta and molasses and half with the melted chocolate. Garnish with mint.

    Flavors a bit off

I saw Bobby make this recipe, and I was really excited to make it. I had never had figs before, and his presentation really... made me want to expand my horizons. My lack of fig experience might be the issue here: I truly hated the finished product. I followed the recipe exactly, and to me the figs tasted like squash ... not a good flavor with chocolate or ricotta and molassas. My husband and I tried these and ended up throwing the whole plate away. I used fresh mission figs from Fresh Market, so I don't think they were bad. To me, the figs just didn't go with the toppings (though I will say that the toppings themselves were good). It was fun to make anyway. In the future, I think I'll stick to grilling peaches. I would have never put these ingredients together on my own. But, it was a really good starter.
