I LOVE this recipe! A few tips that I think made it even better...

I cut the bread into squares. This gave the pudding more of a rustic look and spread the crust evenly around. By doing this it doesn't get at all mushy, like some other people say.

Add fresh fruit! I used mixed berry jam and then layered raspberries, sliced strawberries, and blueberries over the jam. Amazing!

After you add the custard let it sit for a few hours to soak in.

Serve with a little fresh whip cream and you have yourself the perfect fruit dessert. I made this for a family dinner party and then again for a baby shower - almost everyone asked me for the recipe. HUGE HIT!

I made this last night, and it was wonderful!!!! I am really surprised with all the negative reviews thast this recipe received, I mean I followed the recipe except for the bread. i actually used white bread Hot dog buns that I tore up in chunks and packed the bottom of the dish then again on top. It was moist but not soggy and really tasty. I baked it a little longer then the recipe said but that was it. My entire family loved it and in fact had me make it again today. Thank you Bobby!!

It tasted terrific with any bread that I have used. I wonder if the people who had trouble making it have checked to make sure that their oven temperature is accurate; many are not.

I, too, made it with challah because brioche was unavailable. The jam soaked into the bread and made it too soggy. Maybe if the 2 bread sides that touched the jam were buttered first? Then you could use half & half instead of cream to lighten it up. Enjoyed some cold for breakfast---reminded me of cheese blintzes.

This is an exceptionally delicious dessert. I followed the recipe except I substituted braided egg bread (similar to challah for the brioche since it was unavailable. It was wonderful! I loved the method of broiling it, which caramelized the jam and gave it a bit of a cruch. Heavenly!

To start ... I couldn't find Brioche ... tried to two supermarket bakery departments and no luck so I used Italian bread. Not one person in my family liked it ... really surprising. Especially after I read so many positive reviews. The first time I took it out of the oven it was dry so I had to put more milk / egg combo on it and back in the oven ... didn't do much but make it soggy. I'd say it was YUCKY!

This has to be the best dessert I have ever made. It is great for dessert or breakfast. I used challa bread, italian bread and even just the plain white bread. I was wonderful all three times. I even cut out the sugar mixed with the eggs, and cut the powered sugar in half for the top. I have tried it with egg beaters instead of real eggs, it was just as good each time. So it can even be made healthy. Vanilla ice cream tops it perfectly. You will not be dissappointed.

Well I could not find any Brioche so I used a Italian bread. This is great for in the morning with the fresh strawberries on top. Will definitely make again.

Made this for a Christmas dinner dessert, as it is warm, buttery, and comforting. We used raspberry jam and added a little almond extract to the egg mixture. Heavenly!

I made this for a baby shower a few months ago, and it was a hit! Served it with whipped cream and fresh fruit. Everyone thought I was a culinary genius! I made it with challah bread, and it was awesome. This would also be perfect for breakfast, with a side of bacon/sausage. The next time I make it, I'm going to use apple preserves instead of strawberry jam.
