Made this for my wife for our 22nd anniversary breakfast. The lemon is a very nice complement to blueberries! Very distinctive - Kudos to Bobby. I felt that with blueberries in the pancakes, and with the blueberry syrup, I omitted the blueberry cassis relish. (I knew I didn't have any Cassis in the house

Many have commented on the lack of ricotta in the recipe. I simply added a cannoli filling on top. Mix about 1 cup of Ricotta, few Tbsp sugar and about a tsp of vanilla until smooth.

Great recipe! I added the blueberries after I poured the batter on the pan (just as the competitor did... I didn't make the relish nor syrup, but the pancakes sure were delicious! I agree with the other reviewer that said the recipe makes 8-10 medium sized pancakes. A new recipe from my collection.

Just made these pancakes this morning. And boy were they delish. I didn't have enough lemon zest on hand so I combined both lemon and lime zest. I really do think the zest really brings out the flavor of these pancakes. They were a real treat and really good. This is a keeper. In fact, I think you can tweek the recipe with bananas instead of blueberries. Either way I think it will workout fine.

We had these as a special treat for dinner. After they were hot off the griddle, we thought there was too much lemon flavor, but after adding the other components, things balanced out nicely. I honestly cannot imagine eating them without the compote! However, we did do the competitor's maple butter on top instead of the blueberry syrup Flay suggested. Great texture and taste--not to mention a beautiful presentation! As far as the ricotta is concerned, the other comments seemed to think you need to do something to it, but honestly, the tartness of the ricotta cheese morphs this recipe from dessert-like into a true meal. BIG NOTE: The recipe states this makes 20 pancakes--not true. We have four kids and were pulling out the Bisquick to fill everyone up! At best, you can pull 8-10 medium sized ones out of this recipe.

I made these pancakes for my parents and myself and we all loved them. I had to make a few changes though... instead of making the syrup we bought a premade blueberry syrup and i put red wine in the compote instead of cassis, i also forgot to put ricotta cheese on top since it wasnt listed as an ingredient :( but overall i loved them!!!

I altered the recipe slightly to give it a healthier kick. I substituted 1/2 of flour with whole wheat flour, and instead of store-bought buttermilk, I used nonfat milk with a little bit of vinegar. The final product came out a little denser and not air-light fluffy probably because of the texture of whole wheat flour. I served it with the blueberry syrup and skipped the compote but it was still delicious. Separating eggs and adding egg whites into the batter was pretty effective. I read great reviews of Bobby's original recipe and I am still curious to try the original version for a fluffier texture.

I don't plan ahead much. When I decided to make these pancakes, I had blueberries and my basic pantry stuff. That means no buttermilk. I instead substituted 1 cup of whole milk and 1/3 cup of heavy cream. I also did not have lemons! I substituted 1/8 of a teaspoon of pure lemon extract.

Theses were great! I obviously did not make the blueberry Cassis relish or the blueberry maple syrup, but you know what? It didn't need it. The ricotta was okay. The pancakes were fanstatic on their own!

I did take a tip from the throwdown opponent. I did not mix my berries into the batter as the recipe called for. As Bobby's opponent on the throwdown did, I sprinkled them on the batter once it was in the pan. They were perfect.

    I'd highly recommend!

I tried this pancake recipe. It was great and my family and guests liked it. But I was disappointed that I couldn't make the complete recipe. The show had the ricotta cheese on them but there was no ricotta cheese in the recipe to be found. Also a measurement for the Cassis would have been nice as well as telling us what it is.
I don't think this should be rated "Easy" because of all the steps and all the guess work that has to go into interpreting the recipe, especially if you're a novice cook.

Years ago, I made a recipe from Richard Simmon's Deal-a-Meal Cookbook. It was a omlette made w/ 1 egg yolk, 2 egg yolks whipped. It was started on the stove & then popped in oven to brown. It was filled w/ fresh strawberries and topped w/ more strawberries and a ladling of a ricotta mixture. Seems to me it was ricotta cheese mixed w/ plain yogurt and vanilla extract. For sweetness, I would then mix in some Equal (or you can use sugar. It was awesome. Experiment w/ the ricotta a little. Seems to me this would be alot better than just plain ricotta cheese on top of these glorious pancakes.
