This is not the recipe that is given on Cafe 222's website! That recipe is the one I used and it is awesome. Not sure why there is a difference but the orange juice is necessary, it's such a great flavor...and I didn't use the honey, must not have had any at the time. And I do remember using whole-wheat french bread instead of regular loaf bread. Not sure how it tastes at Cafe 222 but if you follow their recipe it is not your run-of-the-mill PB&B sandwich!

Didn't make the recipe but went to cafe 222 and was incredibly disappointed. I expected more from a "the best thing I ever ate" from Bobby Flay.

This recipe was awesome! We tried it with half & half because we we're out of heavy cream and it worked great! Very delicious, and my most pickiest of eaters even loved it.
    Great recipe!

Nothing special in my opinion. Pretty similar to a peanut butter and banana sandwich.

Here is the link to Cafe 222's recipe. It differs quite a bit:

I loved this recipe! Short, easy and delicious. I did a few substitutions to make it a little more calorie/waistline friendly and was surprised it was still fantastic!

    Almond milk vs Half&Half
    No Rum
Extra Fresh squeezed OJ in the eggs
raw/natural peanut butter---true, higher in calories but easy for your body to digest in the long run and if you're going to splurge but want to stay healthy, might as well not use hydrogenated oils!:
    Low sugar grain bread
    Agave syrup vs honey

If you only use a little bit of PB on the sandwich itself, drop a tiny bit on it after putting it on the plate, while it's still hot! Great flavor and less syrup!

If you're cooking for a skeptic/health nut but still want the fun and flavor of a recipe this rich, it CAN be done...though the original is pretty fantastic, I must say!

I have not made this recipe yet, but watched the episode with the orange juice in it. I went to Cafe 222's website, the recipe they have has the orange juice, no nutmeg, and more half and half. There is also a video of making the french toast.

After I finished the french toast, I put a T of butter and 1/4 or so of maple syrup in the pan and added a sliced banana to it to make a yummy syrup to pour over it. My daughter gave it an 11 on a 1-10 scale!

Like Cherie from California I also watched the episode last night and vividly remember the o.j. being present. Is it not necessary? It would change the viscosity of a liquid, wouldn't it? Chefs, please, clarify the questionable recipe.
