We love this salad. I cut the olive oil in half, and didn't include the corn chips. Very tasty, healthy salad.

For some reason, this recipe did not come through for me with the flavor punch I was expecting. I love BF's recipes, and it has plenty of texture (and is very healthy, it just lacks flavor punch for some reason. Will try adding olives and possibly some red pepper or jalapeños.
A prior reviewer asked who Sophie is - I believe she is Bobby's daughter. Very sweet that he named a recipe for her!

This is always a hit but the recipe posted here does not include the nicoise black olives that the original recipe contains. I sometime substitute the Greek calmative olives. As a previous poster stated, the dressing is a must. I add a tablespoon of honey as I like mine a little sweeter.

This salad is always a hit with guests. The only variation I do is the blue corn chips; I add crumbled (not too much store-bought blue corn tortilla chips.

Although this version is delicious, this salad, as served at Mesa Grill, is a little different. At Mesa, there is no cucumber in it, instead there are diced tomatoes. I agree that substituting black beans for red is better, they seem to complement the southwestern style of the salad. You HAVE to make the balsamic dressing! I couldn't imagine tossing a bottled dressing on this salad, when the dressing is so simple to make, and much healthier, too! I have served this numerous times at summer BBQ's, and oftentimes, I mix up Bobby's 16 spice rub for chicken, and add the grilled chicken to salad to make it meal size...which only adds more delicious southwestern flavor to this incredible dish!

I've made this before and I'm making it again! I usually skip the red beans because my husband doesn't care for them... and I like to add a little honey to the dressing. Super yummy!

I first saw this recipe in an issue of Guideposts. I really liked it. I like to experiment and I substituted a bit - black beans for the red beans, and Paul Newman's light balsamic vinagrette for the dressing since I didn't have all of the dressing ingredients. Every time I make this, someone asks for the recipe!. Very easy and very good!

I substituted black beans for the red beans, but otherwise stuck to the recipee. Dressing was lacking and just seemed to fall flat. will need to add more kick next time around.

Pretty good, but I'd like to experiment with add-ins (maybe roasted corn? to jazz it up a bit. Jamieson Clem liked it alright. It definitely needs more texture. Maybe even some chopped up roasted peppers? I will say it's a pretty healthy dish, especially if you just barely drizzle small portions of the dressing on it.
