What a disappointment! After spending all day making this bread (the inactive prep time is 14 hours, not minutes as stated, it tasted nothing like the Limpa I remember so fondly from my time living in Sweden. It's much darker, both in color and flavor, and has none of the warm, sweet, comforting flavor I was so looking forward to. I guess I'll keep looking for the right recipe.

This limpa is great! My mother grew up eating limpa in her Swedish community, and she confirms that this is indeed the real thing. Also, we've gotten great results every time by following the recipe exactly as written. It never lasts long once it comes out of the oven. Thank you very much Bobby for providing this recipe.

I had looked for this recipe ever since the Viking Bakery burned down in Connecticut, we all would wait at the shore for "Limpa man" to deliver. As soon as this semester is over I am making this, my whole family is waiting, from my mom(who is 86..to my sister in SC who is 54....now if we can just get milk delivered again to go with this bread from the viking gods!

"Excellent!" was the initial comment from my Swedish neighbor. Then he went on to say it was delicious and just like he remembers growing up. It's very moist, flavorful, and ~ best of all ~ easy to make! I will definitely keep this in my file to make again. Thank you for sharing!

Finally! A recipe that makes a bread almost exactly like I remember as a kid from a local swedish restaurant (Villa Sweden in Huntington Beach, CA which closed many years ago. I must have baked 8 other recipes trying to duplicate that luscious, sweet taste. Thank you!!!

My swedish family all gave two thumbs up on this recipe. i made it for christmas this past year and the family was shocked that i was able to mimic my swedish grandmothers bread that she would bring to the table at christmas (she bought it at a store that is no longer in business. since my grandmother has been gone for 8 years now, the family really craved limpa bread. i volunteered to make it, and glad i did! THANK YOU BOBBY!!!! you made this christmas feel like meemee was there with us!

Great recipe, Bobby! I, too, remember the limpa at the Viking Bakery. It came out perfectly. Didn't have a tub of shortening, so I used the same amount of liquid Crisco. Worked out just fine. Thanks.

This recipe is the same one that my grandfather used while at Viking Bakery (Hartford, CT. It's excellent and even those of non-Swedish decent will enjoy it. I love making this for our Christmas smorgasbord. Enjoy.
