I prepared a simple pie crust using butter, flour, salt, sugar and some cold water. I lined the buttery pastry crust in a deep dish ceramic pie plate. The pie came out delicious and the 60 minutes baking time on the bottom rack of my oven turned out perfectly. I just had two large slices of this tasty pie and can't wait to have a clod slice of it tomorrow! Thanks Neely's for this delicious pie recipe.

I want to comment on Myra's from Chicago?s comment. I am a 63 year old retired chef, which means I have a degree and worked in all sorts of restaurants and have been a cook since I was 12 years old. I am at a loss when you said no one uses allspice and ginger in a sweet potato pie? This is an old receipt my grandmother used almost to the letter. If you didn't make the dish why comment and tell others what and what not to use unless you think it tastes bad? I increased the amount of sugar other and substituted heavy cream instead of evaporated milk. Other than that it was all good!

I wish I'd read the reviews on this one before I made the pie! Texture was fine but it was lacking in sweetness and flavor. I'll probably double the amount of spices and use more sugar next time. It has potential, but definitely needs to be tweaked.

Again I followed the recipe to the T and got mashed potatoes in a pie shell. I cooked it an extra 35 minutes then recipe said and it was still mashed potatoes and NOT a pie.

I didn't miss anything and for sure put eggs in. Did it need flour or more eggs?

We did however like the flavor.

This recipe is a keeper!!!! I've made others in the past and this one was the best by far. I made two deep dish pies (the recipe gave me enough to fill them and one was gone within a couple of hours. My boyfriend loved it!!!! I froze the other for future company. I don't know what happened with the negative posts below but my results were OUTSTANDING! I added more of the spices to fit my particular taste buds. This pie is definetly sweet but you can customize it to your taste buds as well. Thanks Pat and Gina! I can't wait to try some of your other recipes!

"I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS RECIPE AND I DEFINITELY WON'T. THERE IS NO WAY YOU ADD GINGER AND ALLSPICE WHEN MAKING A SWEET POTATO PIE. THE INGREDIENTS MENTION ARE FOR A PUMPKIN PIE. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT ADD ALLSPICE AND GINGER TO A SWEET POTATO PIE RECIPE. ALSO, WHEN I MAKE SWEET POTATO PIES I REALLY DON'T MEASURE INGREDIENTS I JUST SEASON ACCORDING TO MY TASTE TESTERS (MY CHILDREN. THE OTHER INGREDIENTS MENTION ARE ON POINT. JUST DON'T ADD GINGER AND ALLSPICE".

This pie is far from "Southern Hospitality." Anyone who is a true Southerner knows that our desserts are rich and sweet and have that "down home" flavor. This pie was far from that. I made 2 pies for Thanksgiving using this recipe, and both pies were thrown away because no one liked them! I was so embarrassed. My husband asked me if it was a diet recipe! If you're planning on making this pie, please add extra sugar because this recipe is seriously lacking the sweet, rich flavor of true Southern Hospitality.
