Over all the recipe was good but next time I make to Pie I will cook to potatos longer( I had to put them in the food prosser to make them more smoother. I did add more of all the spices and more brown sugar. I did use the topping we eat it right out of the oven.

Yes it is lumpy because the sweet potatos aren't cooked long enough. Next time I'll do 375 degrees for 1 Hr. 15 min, just like when I bake them. They'll mash easier. I added a little more (a heaping 1/8 of 1/2 tsp of all spices and a bit more evaporated milk. Also, if you don't have deep dish pie crust, you'll end up with two small pies. It doesn't need the whipped topping, it taste great warm. Enjoy!

This recipe was the best. I varied the ingredients a bit and tweeked them to my tastebuds but all in all it's wonderful and easy. My mother in law makes the best/slamm'nest sweet potatoe pies.....I truly think this one can compete. I added a whole sick of butter vs. a half and I added Lemon extract, same amount as the vanilla. I also added more spices and vanilla/lemon according to my taste when I made the batter. This was an easy pie to make. I love watching The Neely's and when my husband and I saw this episode, I had to try it. You get 5 stars. It's a keeper!!!

Oh my God! I recently began searching desperately for a recipe that tasted just like my dear Mom and had no luck. She took the recipe to the grave with her and so did my love for sweet potatoe pie. One weekend I was off work and tuned in to my favorite show and was excited all at once. I found it! My true love is back and I see why I will always be a Southerner! Much abliged Pat and Gina lol

I had never tasted a sweet potato pie before making this one. I was very pleased with the results. The flavor was delightful. With no time to bake the potatoes, I cooked them individually in the microwave. That worked just fine. Because I had so much pie filling I used a 10 inch deep pie pan. Still there was a little filling left. I think this recipe would fill two regular 9 inch pie pans. We had our first piece warm and the second piece, the next day, cold from the fridge. It tasted even better cold from the fridge.

I saw the show this weekend and decided to make this.. The pie is fabulous!!! I did DOUBLE all the spices..(not the salt when I put it all together I knew I would want more flavor from the spices as it was alot of sweet potatos...I'm glad I did that ... (1/8 teaspoon is very little compared to the volume of the ingredients ...I hope someone asks me to bring pie this Holiday season...This is just delicious and reminds me of pies in New Orleans...Yum, Yum....we added vanilla frozen yogurt instead of whipped cream...doesnt really need it ... just something else to make this pie off the charts... This is just delicious!!!

I have been cooking several recipes of this pie for over 15 years from cousins in Mississippi to taste testers from West Palm Beach this is rated the best they have ever tested.

The simplicity of the recipe to bake the potatoes verses boiling is what keeps the great flavor in every bite.

The texture of the pie is always right with the given amount of evaporate milk being added.

Thank you Calley for sharing on your show, you made it look easy to make and you are right. I cook more pies now than ever.

This recipe for southern sweet potato pie does not stand up. I followed this recipe word for word and I waited 25min to cut the finished product and it fell apart. I had to wait until it was almost cold so it would stay together when cut. In addition to its poor texture and inability to stay together, the flavor was bland. I would not recommend this recipe.

I made this sweet potatoe pie for the 4 of July but it did not have enough sugar. I always add extra so instead of 1/4 cup white sugar I added 1/2 cup white sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar. The next time I make it I will add 3/4 cup white sugar. I would also recomend whipping up the sweet potatoes before adding them so the pie will have a smoother texture. Also it was enough mixture for 2 regular pie shells (use 5-6 medium sweet potatoes. The pies were a big hit.
