I believe this recipe aired in 1999. We saw the episode and have been enjoying this soup ever since. As a matter of fact we made it again last night and it was delightful as always! We use only the most expensive of the alternate ingredient suggestions as aired on the original show and we have never been disappointed. We recommend this soup unreservedly!

Easy and so darn good! My husband fell in love with this soup and he does not like onions or soup-- I took a huge risk with this recipe and it was outstanding!! I used a Cab for the wine and more like 1 cup to 11/4 cups-- everything else just as written. YUM!

This soup is soo good! I used a french merlot ($9.00 price range instead of the burgundy, as well as greyere cheese. I wanted to make it again the next day!

This recipe was too sweet for my taste. I tried diluting the soup with more broth and adding more salt and pepper but it was no use. Ended up throwing it all away. I prefer a saltier french onion soup.

I have made this recipe several times exactly as written and with whatever red wine I have at home and it is always wonderful! My mom loves french onion soup and this recipe is her favorite even above restaurant soups. There is nothing like making your mom happy with a simple onion soup.

I made this soup the other night for a dinner. The only changes I made were to omit the sugar and I added about a half-cup of demi-glace I had standing by in the freezer. My partner wants to know if we can have this soup every night for the rest of fall and winter! I'm hoping it can hold up to freezing.

Simple to make and tastes just like the expensive restaurants.

I keep coming back for this recipe! It's quite simply the best french onion soup ever invented. I am a french onion soup fan. If it's offered, I order it. However, none have ever measured up to this one. Thanks to the family that shared this recipe. I'm forever grateful.

this recipe is like my moms and is very good. I did make just one change to it. I use a sherry wine, in stead of the port. They store i was at did not have the poort. It still was very good.
