This is a great recipe! It may not be "traditional" but it's worth the time and effort.

First of all this is a tomato sauce. Gravy is something that you serve over mashed potatoes. Any good Italian-American cook would laugh at this recipe. Onions, onion powder and shallot - why? Italians use crushed red pepper flakes NOT jalapenos. I could go on and on but why bother? A really good tomato sauce is also really simple. Tomatoes, garlic, basil, salt and pepper. Two or three meats are sufficient. This is how I make my sauce (which is also the way my Italian mother made hers and the way my Italian grandmother made hers too.

I have made this sauce a few times for my family....I omit the hot peppers, but that is all I change. I even have neighbors coming over to see what smells so good when I am making it. I use the sauce in a variety of recipes, it freezes very well! Thank you so much for sharing your family recipe, it is now part of ours too. :-
