Made a bunch of these (80. Great taste. Made a couple of changes based on other reviews. I didn't add any butter. I only brought them to 275 degrees (soft crack. I made one batch brought to 300 degrees (hard crack but they became a darker carmel color with a more pronounce carmel flavor. I also found that the lollipops made with red, orange, and yellow flavored jellos had better color than the ones made with purple or blue colored jellos. No matter which jello was used the flavors were outstanding...I had never made lollipops before, but found it fairly simple.

These were fun to make, but you do have to work fast. We made the mistake of buying plastic sticks - and they started to curl after pouring the hot sugar on them. I will use paper sticks next time for sure. I wasn't happy with the "carmel" like color either. We used blue jello - and they turned out more turquoise color. Oh well. The kids LOVE them, and I know I will be making them again.

I loved the recipe but I decided to just make it without the butter. I was making them for my daughters first birthday and really needed a color to match the theme. After trying several batches I found they held up better, tasted more like the flavor, and just had a brighter color without the butter. I also loved the caramel flavor too, it makes a nice variable.

I just made these lollipops, they were incredibly easy to do and so fast. Only made about 10 lollipops though, and the mixture cooled pretty quick so you have to work very very fast. Definitely put some nonstick spray on the metal spoon you're using - the mix sticks to the spoon and doesn't get all the way out. Clean up was easy too, just some hot water and let it sit. Will definitely try again with different flavored jello.

I saw her make these yesterday evening and thought it would be great for the kids to help with when they are out of school for the holidays. I have one question, has anyone tried to make these kind of like you make the hard candy by Lorann flavoring, instead of making them into suckers just pour the mix onto the sheet and allowed to cool then dust with powdered sugar? Any ideas with this would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with one of the previous posters that while this a great recipe, the suckers come out with a caramel overtone. This I assume is because of the added butter which in my opinion can probably be left out. It would also allow the color of the Jello to come through without the mixing with the basic beige or brown from the added butter. I had to add a few drops of food coloring to give my a pinkish tone. I swirled a few extra drops to give a marbled effect. Either way it is a good recipe. Im trying it without butter next time! :
