Made it for a party of twelve tonight, so i doubled the recipe. It turned out good, but a little too sweet for our tastes.

I made this tonight as a side dish to our German meal, and my husband LOVED it. He is picky about his German potato salad, with it's balance of sweet and tang, and he said this hit the mark. I only made slight modifications; I used small redskinned potatoes (what I had on hand, and I incorporated the bacon and chives into the recipe, instead of using them as a garnish. I also threw in some fresh parsley and rosemary.

Years ago my ex mother-in-law made this, & she was native German. I really enjoyed her, but had never tried to make it myself. I told my husband about it, & upon hearing it's served warm & not made with mayo, he didn't think he'd like it. I made it anyway, & sure enough, he did indeed like it. Enough to say he wouldn't mind having it again. I had only had it with regular potatoes, but we really enjoyed the golds. I had looked at several recipes, & this one sounded the closest to what she made. Really enjoyed having it again, brought back good memories from years ago.

My girlfriend and I absolutely love this recipe. I cut out the celery seed, but that was it. I have never been a fan of potato salad until I prepared this dish. Thank you Germany! Something more than strong women and good cars for once.

A recipe similar to this has been in my German family for generations. Our recipe uses fresh chopped celery in place of the celery seed, and red onions that are not sauteed. Other than those two modifications, the recipe is the same. The result is a less heavy and a lighter, fresher salad that is great for summer picnics and parties.

I was in the mood for German potato salad and came across this recipe. I used small Yukon gold potatoes, fresh parsley instead of chives, and a little extra vinegar. The family loved it. Even the picky eaters, because anything made with bacon has to be good! No leftovers here. My husband didn't want me to share where I got the recipe, so that only I can make it and bring it to family picnics! Plus it was easy to make!

I have made this 3 times already this summer. It was even good the next morning when I took it from the fridge and fried it up like hash browns. I did add black pepper to mine too, but I'll have to try the celery seed too. I liked this recipe the best because it was not "heavy" like most German potato salads are. It is also very easy, and I usually have the ingredients on hand. I also boil twice the amount of potatoes, and then use the other half to make traditional potato salad at the same time. It's a real time saver.

Great! I made this at the last minute and didn't have bacon - it was still great and very tasty.
Will for sure make again!
