Thank you for this recipe. My former MIL used to make German Potato Salad but I never knew how to make it. When my current husband and I had it at a restaurant, I was determined to add it to my recipes at home. This was so easy and tasted so great! (better than the restaurant actually Unlike others, I only used about 1 TBS of the fat. I started the bacon in the pan then crisped it up in the microwave. I love the idea of adding pepper and celery seed and will try that. I also like the idea of doubling the sauce. Yum!

This is an excellent recipe. I've been trying to find a good German Potato Salad recipe for a long time, since I had it at a potluck, made by someone from Germany. I did as recipe said, and I don't think it's at all overly sweet. I think the people that thought it was too sweet did not realize that this is German Potato Salad and that's how it's suppose to taste. Was looking for something that did not have mayo in it for a outdoor party this summer. I did add some celery seeds and peeper as one review suggested and it was great.

This was fantastic! Everyone loved it. I did double the sauce though and cut the sugar a bit after reading the other reviews. I also used all of the bacon fat. This was extremely good!

Way to much sugar! I made this recipe exactly, and there was too much sugar vs. vinegar. I will try it again with 1/2 the amount of sugar. I looked at a lot of other recipes for German Potato Salad after I had this failure, and they have 1 1/2 t. or just slightly more. This was a failure for me. Sorry.

I think that I'm going to try this on the family for Christmas dinner... I had it years ago and loved it, but none of them ever have... I might add a little rosemary or some more herbs of some sort... I think the rosemary will give it a nice hint of wintery evergreen flavor reminiscent of the huge live tree in our house!

I like to slice the potatoes before cooking them. I use all of the bacon fat when cooking the onions for more "sauce". I also use apple cider vinegar for a little better taste. This recipe is very similar to the one I got from my relatives in Germany though.

I made this tonight after watching the show this morning, it was so much easier than the German potato salad my mother-in-law makes (hers is awesome too! Both my husband and I enjoyed this very much. I also made the chicken from this episode, it was moist and delicious. Strawberry shortcake is coming up this weekend! Thanks for some "keeper" recipes.
