My dad wanted strawberry shortcake for his bday dinner .. I found this recipe and read the reviews b/c of the rating ... This recipe is so awesome, easy, chic, and the lemon zest is such a tasty surprise in the whipped cream .. can't wait to make it again. I doubled the recipe and it turned out great ... Thanx:

This was the perfect recipe to celebrate the first week of stawberry season in Ohio. I made it on a Monday night in 90 degree weather with two v. small demanding children underfoot. It was so quick and easy to prepare and the payoff was huge. Awesome dessert for any night of the week. Hopefully nobody will be put off of trying it based on the skewed rating. I had sought this recipe out after seeing this episode (the only one i have seen because it looked like one of those dishes I could easily commit to memory and make at the drop of a hat. I almost didn't though because the average rating was 3 stars. I'm glad that I took the time to read what the "reviewers" wrote. Looks like some people have too much time on their hands (anonymous. Although many of us aspire to cook like Jamie and Ina and Mario everyday (me, the reality is that there isn't always time. Not to mention that if you are new to cooking, those hosts can be somewhat intimidating. "Another roast chicken, potato salad menu"...WAAH! I gave the shortcake an extra star to compensate for those of you that didn't even bother to make the recipe that you rated. Get a life.

I really liked the shortcake. I made it with a bit whole wheat mixed in - was still moist and great. I was even able to refrigerate and microwave it for 5 to 10 seconds to make it moist again. I, too, was turned off by the long hair bouncing around while she cooked, but the recipes are good and she's just getting started. Give her a break.

I think the show was great! I don't know why anyone would expect a long list of ingredients and complicated recipes with a show titled Chic & Easy??? Hello people...many times in life, and especially in the kitchen, less is more.

I tried this receipe right after the show for a brunch we were attending. I have never had such moist cake. And the additiion of freshly whipped cream was a real guest pleaser.( mary is right about the hint of lemon! This is a fantastic receipe I will continue to use.

I had to make this tonight after seeing the show this morning. I didn't know you could make biscuit-type shortcake without butter or shortening. I love this version! Delicious and very easy. Definitely will make again.

We had a little vanilla ice cream with it too, along with the whipped cream.

Just finished making this for dessert tonight - husband loved it - as I think we all will. The hair really bothers me and the very fast pace of this was wearing - however, first timer so let us hope this improves. Not really Food Network standard though is it??????

This is a regular old recipe for strawberry shortcake just like the other dishes featured on this show.

Sometimes that's all you need. I like to see a demo of a traditional recipe and its results to give me some guidance along the way, then I can switch it up myself later.

I don't know what is chic about this show yet but these recipes are definitely easy. As for the host, yes, she is rushed, not yet polished and hasnt developed her personality yet but she is way better than Ingrid Hoffman and Sunny Anderson. Cut her some slack, its only the first show!
