Ingredients
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 2 (9-inch) pie plates; set aside.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, beating until incorporated. Beat in the vanilla. Add flour mixture, a little at a time, and mix until fully combined. Fold in the 3 cups chocolate chips and, if desired, the walnuts. Divide the dough between the prepared pie plates and smooth the tops with a spatula.

Bake about 30 minutes or until pies are golden and slightly firm to the touch but still soft. If the pies begin to darken too much before they are baked through, cover with foil and continue baking. Let pies cool completely on a wire rack.

While the pies cool, whip the cream and confectioners' sugar until soft peaks form (tips curl). Fold in the chocolate chips. Refrigerate whipped cream until ready to use. Spread the whipped cream over the pies and serve.

I served this last night for a family dinner. Everyone loved it. I made it a day ahead and heated it in the microware for about 15 or so seconds. It was wonderful. I wouldn't put less chips like some suggested as this makes it fudgey like a pie should be. I will definitely make this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Gee, I'm really bummed about the way this turned out. I followed the recipe to the letter, but added one more egg because the ones I had werent especially large. Couldnt wait to try it but when I did.....it was hard and dry ....no moisture. Any ideas why?? item not reviewed by moderator and published

Absolutely amazing and so simple!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published

I ADORE this pie. I changed up the chocolate to Ghiradelli's %60 cocoa flat chips, the flat ones melt so much better, and I make this in a big brownie pan to make bars instead of a pie, SO GOOD! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was DELICIOUS!! I used huge wide chocolate chips and it was too much chocolate so stick the regular. Also, i did not let it cool for longer than 10 min. I cut it warm and had it with Vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream and it was absolutely amazingggggggg. Will make this again reallllll soon:. I also cut out the nuts item not reviewed by moderator and published
OMG, I just finished making the topping for this pie and took a bite...yummy!!!! My hubby is a chocoholic and he's gonna love this one! Thanks Paula! : item not reviewed by moderator and published
I used to make a chocolate chip pie that was good, but that I stopped making for some reason. When I saw this recipe on Paula's Best Dishes, I made it that same night. DELICIOUS!!! After tasting this recipe, I immediately threw out my old one. My husband LOVED it. He usually doesn't like sweets, so when I put it in front of him he only had a few bites. Within 5 minutes his plate was totally clean! I cut the recipe in half and it was pretty easy, with exception to the eggs (resulted in 1.5 eggs - I whisked 2 eggs and dumped some..no biggie. 3 other changes: 1. Used pecans instead of walnuts; 2. Used a mixture of chocolate chips and chopped up dark chocolate (didn't have enough chips; 3. didn't make the cream. Next time, I will reduce the chocolate. I love chocolate, but it was a bit much. Halving the recipe called for 1.5 cups; I'll just use 1 cup. Note: I did have to cover it with foil 20 minutes into baking; and had to bake it 10 minutes longer. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely delicious. I only substituted the walnuts for pecans because I don't like walnuts, but absolutely delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Probably the best pie ever! It was soooo good. Only problem is trying not to eat the whole pie!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My husband said to rate this pie with 10 stars even after telling him 5 was the most possible. Thanks Deen Brothers! Now I'll certainly be taking this pie to Thanksgiving. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pie was delicious. I halved the recipe as I didn't need two pies. My guests loved it. The whipped cream is yummy as well. I left out the walnuts due to nut allergy and WOW! Will definitely go in my recipe book! item not reviewed by moderator and published
OMGOSH. I LOVE THIS PIE SO MUCH. this is prob the best pie i ever ate in my life. THANK U PAULA! <3 item not reviewed by moderator and published
Holy Chocolate Chip!!! It was amazing!!!!!! I'll be making this one again and again and again... item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely amazing! I made this pie twice - once for my family during New Years and the other for my school! They LOVED it! Even when cooled, the chocolate melted in your mouth! Very quick and easy, even for beginners item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pie was delish, easy to make and quick, everyone loved it. I however, made a half recipe as there were only 4 "diners" and one pie was enough, the recipe worked out wonderfully. I also cut down the chocolate chip amount, it was perfect and yummy without icecream or whipping cream! Worth a try! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Just made this recipe - FABULOUS!!!! Couldn't wait to try it so I cut it while it was still a bit warm! WOW!!!! Will have it after work tonight as a treat, warmed, with some vanilla ice cream. The 2 pies are too much for our family, so I am bringing one to work. I'm sure they will enjoy it as much as my husband, son and II!!!! Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this in a 9X14 cake pan becaue I did not have two pie pans. Turned out like giant thick chocolate chip cookie squares. Very good while warm with vanilla bean ice cream on top. I used only 2 cups of chocolate chips and this was very very rich...so I cant imagine 3 cups...seems a bit much. And I used only 1 cup walnuts and it was perfectly balanced (the nuts and chips). I would make it again when I have a real sweet tooth and Im craving a chocolate chip cookie. Ice cream is the better addition in my opinion too. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for the 4th , everyone LOVED it. Was the hit of the day! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I baked this pie for the 4th it was a very easy recipe. But i use two cups of chocolate chips not three. And one cup of the chopped nuts. the whip cream i did add some vanilla in to it.My family love thie pie i will bake it again. . item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is so easy and wonderful!! I couldn't wait to cut it, and can definately say - serve warm with ice cream!! I used Egg Beaters and it worked just fine. I used 1.75 cups of walnuts, but next time I will reduce that to 1 cup or leave them out altogether. They're an expensive addition, but they do add great flavor...however, the 2 cups is a bit much. Will definately make this again and again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Just made this for a party. Everyone loved it! It's great that the recipe makes two pies - they were both gone by morning! I agree with other reviewers that vanilla ice cream seems to be a better accompaniment that the whipped cream. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was deliciouss!! its just like a big cookie I loved it with vanilla icecreme on the side.. i put strawberries on top with the chocolate chips on the whip creme everyone loved it, it looked so pretty!! wud def make this again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for my son's first grade class' pie tasting contest and it won first place - great for kids to help make and enjoy. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a great recipe...it quickly climbed to the top of the charts with my family. My son asks for it all the time now...I, an avid chocolate chip lover, am glad it makes 2 pies (although my waist line isn't)!!! It is sooo good!!! No problems with the recipe...I HIGHLY recommend this recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
LOVE this pie! I make it a point to try and figure out the recipes of all of my favorite dishes @ my favorite restaurants and I have found another one with this one!!! I changed it a little. The first time I made it my family said it was too sweet and my husband hates walnuts. So, I made it with 2 1/2 cups choco chips and used pecans instead of walnuts and now it's getting 5 stars from everyone!!! And I shortened the cooking time by 3-5 mins. THIS will be my go to pie recipe from now on! BTW, incredibly easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made this for Christmas Eve and my son in law said he thought it was possibly the best dessert he had ever had. Perfect soft chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. Life doesn't get any better than that. Also, I made the 2 pies recipe calls for and froze one for New Years Eve. Everybody loved it. Thanks Paula. item not reviewed by moderator and published
If you are looking to make something that everyone will LOVE, make this pie! So much more delicious than just grabbing a choc chip cookie (and soooo easy!) I followed the recipe but used Cool Whip rather than the heavy cream (my kids also love it with vanilla ice cream) while their slice is still warm. Yummmm!!! I'm making more this week! :) item not reviewed by moderator and published
Not a dessert to serve guests. It's just a large, rich, chocolate chip cookie. Is better served a little warm with vanilla ice cream to balance some of the richness and texture. The whipped cream was not a good match but was pretty with the chips in it. It's not a recipe I will repeat. (The raw dough tasted great!) item not reviewed by moderator and published
Awesome recipe. Be careful to not overfill pans. Use a deep dish pan if able to, or will spill all over your oven. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was incredibly delicious. Kind of like a huge moist chocolate chip cookie. I loved it and everybody did too. item not reviewed by moderator and published
After seeing the show for this recipe I just had to make it. My husband is a huge fan of chocolate chip cookies so when I saw this I thought it would be a wonderfull change to the ordinary cookie. I didn't have what was needed to make the topping, so after reading the reviews a lot of people just served a slice by itself, and let me just say that it was delicious!!! Not too sweet but just right! Like many of the others I loved that there were 2 pies! You should definitely give this a try......Jen item not reviewed by moderator and published
I've made this pie about 6 times, it's wonderful! I think my boyfriend would choose this as his last meal if he could! I recommend cutting down the chocolate chips from 3 cups to about 1 and 1/2 though, because the pie becomes overloaded with chocolate otherwise. I also use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter for Baking and you'd never know the difference. Just way helpful way of not feeling AS guilty when eating this dessert : ) item not reviewed by moderator and published
While serving this pie to one of my guest, she exclamed "oh my gosh, this is better than sex". The pie is awesome. Paula, this recipe is a home run for me! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for my family, because they wanted me to bake something, and it was so delicious! It was like a gigantic, soft, chocolate chip cookie. I didn't have a pie pan so I put it into individual muffin cups, and they still were perfect! It's not as sweet as I imagined it to be. I wish I could eat the whole batch (but I know it's probably around 350 calories per serving)!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My daughter had to write an expository paper for her teacher, and she decided to do this recipe. It was super easy, and very yummy. Not many ingredients were used to make two pies. She made an A on the paper, and also gave the family a great recipe. TRY IT, IT IS WONDERFUL!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was not so impressed by this pie; it wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything spectacular. It was easy to make, but in general it just tasted like a fairly bland chocolate chip cookie. There just wasn't anything special about it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I must admit that I was skeptical at first. First of all, I halved the recipe and made only one pie (but I used 2 of the 3 eggs). I cooked mine on 325 but it didn't take that much longer. My family loves homemade chocolate chip cookies so I opted to leave the whipped topping off. It's perfect just by itself. Great recipe! Especially if you have kids!!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for a sick friend. Fortunately, since it makes two I got to keep one. I substituted macadamia nuts for the walnuts and used dark chocolate chips - FANTASTIC!! Didn't even need the whipped cream, although I will try it with the ice cream. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is both delicious and easy to make. I've been making it about once a week for the past month because it disappears so quickly! Vanilla ice cream is definitely the way to go. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this to add some chocolate to the Thanksgiving dessert table this year. What a hit with kids and adults. I agree with one reviewing. Skip the whipped cream and serve with vanilla ice cream. Fantastic, easy and delicious. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is very easy to make and became a family hit the first time I made it. It has become one of the most requested desserts by family and friends. I highly recommend it. Enjoy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Have made this twice now. Once at Easter and sent one back with my college student and again to give a away for friends. They insisted I bring them so because I kept bragging about how good they were! I would always make the 2 of them. You can't eat it all, but giving one away is great. And it takes the same amount of time either way. Did not do the whip cream or ice cream and it was still delicious!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was the bomb!!!!! That's all I can say. Oh, and I'll definitely be making this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Took this pie on a camping trip for my son's birthday and it was delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
So, I see Paula & her son making these yesterday and hopped right up to make them. And proceeded to make several mistakes... first, I subsituted the walnuts for 2 C. peanut butter chips. My guys don't like nuts. If there were too many chips before, as one reviewer stated, there were WAY too many in mine. Then I put the batter in 10" pie pans and lowered the temp to 325?. The pies are flat and more than slightly underdone, looking more like cookies than pie. So, this a.m. I am packing them up for my son to share with his paintball team - those guys will eat anything. When he declares he is NOT taking them to share, I am not particularly surprised as they were a bit of failure. THEN, he says since they are the BEST thing I have made in awhile, he is keeping them all for himself. Apparently, despite all my mistakes, the recipe is a keeper! item not reviewed by moderator and published
What an amazing pie! I worried that two pies would be too much but boy was I wrong! This pie was so good that it was gobbled down quick! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a great pie. I made them and both my family and my boyfriends family devoured them! I will say I baked them about 3-4 minutes longer than stated. Its just like a big cookie! My boyfriend is a peanut butter lover, so I added peanut butter chips to one and it was awesome! item not reviewed by moderator and published
After watching Paula make this on her July 4th episode, I baked it and brought it to work the next Monday for a co-worker's birthday. It was a hit; everyone loved it. I hated to tell them how EASY this was ! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Yummy!!! i love nothing more than a warm chocolate chip cookie, and this is just that except 20x bigger!! it is not your basic pie, but is great nevertheless! The recipe also makes two, which is convinient since they go so fast! i used some of the other reviews suggestions of adding other mix ins besides just chocolate chips, and that worked too! i used toffee chips and in one of the two and it turned out great!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought this recipe was super quick and yummy! I followed the batter recipe to the nose, but when that was complete, I devided the batters and added chocolate chips to one and butterscotch chips to the other. I poured the chocolate chip one into a pie plate, just as the recipe says to do. I poured the butterscotch chip batter into a 9X9 inch pan. So I got a yummy chocolate chip pie, and wonderful blondies all from the same recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
All I can say is this is just a fabulous recipe. I cut down one the sugars a bit and used some candy coated chocolate kisses just to give it some color. My children really loved this. I like that it makes two so we can eat one now and save one for later or give one away. I didn't put the whip cream on top as directed since I'm not sure how it would affect the storage of this pie and we can't eat it all in one sitting (although we would like to). item not reviewed by moderator and published
The pies turned out wonderful. Took one to work and WOW, what a hit. I'm making it again tomorrow. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very good, but had too many chocolate chips...will use 2 cups next time. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I saw this recipe on the web site and had to try it. All of Paulas recipe are wonderful! It was very easy to make and turned out delicious, but the only thing i have to say is that it is just a big chocolate chip cookie. A pie tends to be on the creamy side. All this is a giant chocolate chip cookie, but it is very good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
So easy, and not too sweet (I thought it might be). The only "complaint" I have it that it's for two pies, and a bit tricky to cut in half. Skipped the whipped cream and served with ice cream :) item not reviewed by moderator and published
Thanks again Paula and Bobby. Made the pies for Sunday night dessert. My family loved it finished one pie on Sunday and the second on Monday. I will be making this over and over. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I just finished baking this (and eating a slice)..and yummy! I'm not a pie person, but this is more like a thick, giant cookie. :-D It's incredible! I used whole wheat flour, as it's my preference, and I cut the sugars down about 1/4 cup each. Also, I halved the recipe because I only wanted to make one (I used one jumbo egg, which seemed to work fine). I'm so excited to have stumbled upon this recipe.. thank you to the Deen's! This one's going into my recipe binder, asap! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made one of the pies per the recipe. I added coconut and butterscotch chips to the second--it was delicious! I may also experiment with peanut butter chips in the future. Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I make a Toll House Pie that is very rich, this pie will replace it. Anyone who likes chocolate chip cookies will love it. I added pecans to one of the pies and it was very good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It is great for the chocolate lover. Whipping Cream makes it even better. Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
