Ingredients
- 2 crusts for pie
- 3 large Cortland/McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 tbls. honey, darker the better
- 1 tbls. dark brown sugar, crumbled
- 3 pats of butter
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
Directions
Preheat oven 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Add above ingredients as listed in layers (except butter).
Add top crust, make 3 slices in crust for steam...put butter pats in vents. Wet fingers with water & wash top of crust.
Add aluminum sheet slices or crust protector for the edges. I use heavy (old fashioned) glass pie plate...the better to see what the crust is doing underneath.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 10-15 min. or until the bottom of crust is browned & not mushy. Lower heat to 350 degrees and cook about 25-30 minutes longer to steam insides.
I have used butterscotch chips the same way, just lighten the sugar and honey.

Great twist! Needs more apples and probably a little less chocolate. However, the base flavors were great together. Love the honey!

This is a wonderful and different twist on an old favorite.....I made this for dessert for 7 people and the entire pie vanished! An exquisite taste combining chocolate w/apples! This pie recipe is a keeper.
