My mother make this recently (using directions from the tv show it was on - not from this recipe printed here and it looked like the picture and was delicious! I made it and I think there are differences (and an error or two in this one....I think you should use EITHER the fudge packet from the cake mix OR the cocoa powder. I used both...My cake was entirely chocolate - except for the ricotta filling. Also, it said here to take 2/3 CUP of the mix and put into the pan, then mix cocoa powder into the rest. I think it meant put 2/3 of the entire mix..not 2/3 cup...

All of the cheese mixture sunk to the bottom and the chocolate cake rose to the top. It is still tasty, but not what I was hoping for from what my mother made. I read the other review and no one else mentioned this...I hope future bakers have better luck!! (I'll try it again and will hope for a better result!

The cake was well worth the effort! It was very delicious! Not too rich, just right, a great change from the usual chocolate. Its sort of like a cheesecake (I guess it is, really but different! I thought the icing recipe went perfect! I whipped my own cream and mixed the pudding in, then put it into a pipe bag (ziploc and kept it separate until we ate a slice..i didnt want the icing seeping into the cake after a couple of days in the fridge..so as we wanted a slice, I cut a piece and then piped some icing on..it was perfect! Thanks! Definitely a keeper for my recipe box!

I made it for a co-worker's birthday and they have been hounding me ever since! It is super easy and very yummy. If you don't like the flavor or texture of the ricotta, try using a normal cheese cake batter instead. i

Fun and easy to do, very yummy and different. The cake is not too sweet, but perfectly chocolatey. I used mini chocolate chips, and sprinkled some extra on top of the whipped cream frosting to make my love's birthday cake that much more special.

Been making this cake for family and friends for 8 years. Everyone loves it. I am asked to bring it wherever I go. It MUST be chilled for 8 hours, or overnight for best taste.

I made this cake for my husband for Valentine's Day and he loved it. It's very easy to make and VERY good. We had enough left over that my inlaws and my husband's aunt and a friend of hers had some too a few days later and it was a hit with them, too.

I had made this cake for a teacher's birthday, and some of my friends also joined in on the taste testing. The cake was a big hit and went with the theme of love being Valentine's Day.
