just made this tonight and it was AWE-SOME! it sucks waiting for the condense milk but so worth it, even if you let it simmer for half the time.

This pie was such a success! It was sooooo delicious! And it was not a bit of a mess since I chilled it in the fridge longer than an hour. Burned the crust on my first try following the directions though, so I remade it using a lower temp. And I used salted butter. Everyone who ate it thought it was awesome and asked when I'd be making it again. Thanks Claire!

Claire is my new favorite on the network. I had to make try this pie as soon as I saw her make it, it was delicious. I did make a few adjustments;
I used a ready-made graham crust, I did not bake it first, but I did slather it with a layer of Nutella spread and put it in the fridge while I boiled the milk. Then I made the pie as she instructed and topped the whipped cream with milk chocolate chips......truly decadent dessert! Make sure you let it chill for at least an hour to get the full effect.

This was delicious! I made it for a dinner with a bunch of girlfriends tonight, and I brought home an empty dish! Everyone liked it. I was a bit nervous about simmering the can for 3 hours (b/c of the warning on the label, and didn't want to even walk the dog while it was on the stove, but it turned out great! I even used the Fat Free sweetened condensed milk (I know...why? because that is what I had, and it was still yummy! Agree that the non-sweetened whipped cream helped to balance, and I added a bit extra salt to the crust, and it was a little salty-sweet combo!!! yum! Thanks Claire!

Made it exactly as the recipe said. Came out a melted mess--very disgusting looking. Taste was not too bad, but not very nice to look at. Later, I found the exact same recipe with different directions that said to cool down the toffee more then the 10-15 minutes that this recipe said--so that was the problem. The toffee MUST be cooled more then the time on this recipe, otherwise it melts the whole thing!!

I've made this many times. A real timesaver is using Nestle's Dulce De Leche in a can. It's great stuff and saves boiling water for 3 hours. The taste is identical, because basically, that's what it is condensed milk in a can and all the work has been done for you.

We made this recipe once, it came out too runny. So a few days later we ended up making it again. This time we let it rest in the fridge for a longer time period and it came out perfect! I love this recipe and it's definitely a huge keeper. I will so keep making this recipe from here on out. Hoping for even more joyful and delicious desserts Claire!
