Reminds me of something we were served for pudding (minus the whipped cream after lunch at school when I was a kid growing up in England. Sickly sweet but somehow satisfyingly good. Word of advice. Don't let the evaporated milk cool down too much before opening the can or you will havd a hard time spreading it on the pie.

Mmmmmm.... So good. Very easy. I cooked the sweetened condensed milk for 3 hours. I put it on the bananas while it was still warm and spreadable. It does "set up" when it cools. I cheated a little, and used a prepared graham cracker crust. This was a favorite, I will make this again, and again!

It was a really simple and delicious pie to make! My husband really loves it. I cooked the sweeten condensed milk for three hours and it turned out a perfect spreadable toffee. Yum!!

I simmered the sweetened condensed milk for the 3 hours and it turned out to be a mess all right--a congealed, gloppy mess! It was by no means the magical gooey marvel that was pictured on the show. It was not pourable, not really even spreadable. I'll have to see how it tastes and maybe next time try Paula Deen's method.

i would like to know if you can cook more than one can of condensed milk at one time and can you store an unopened can in the refrigerator for a later time

This recipe was super easy and super good. No one will believe I didn't buy this from the bakery! Claire, you have to change the name from Banoffee Mess to Banoffee Goodness! I want to try vanilla whip cream next time. For those who couldn't wait an hour, I did it right before I went to bed and got up this morning and had a slice for breakfast!

This was awesome! I have never had toffee and banana together. In some way tasted a little like a sweet banana pudding. The toffee was the easiest and the dessert assembled quickly. Waiting the hour was the hardest, but it was worth it!

I’ve always wanted to try this technique with sweetened condensed milk. As soon as I saw this dessert on Claire’s show today, I decided today was the day and ran out for the ingredients. Tending to the simmering water level for 3 hours couldn’t be easier, and the pie crust takes minutes to make using a food processor. Toffee and banana are amazing together, and unsweetened fresh whipped cream makes a perfect topping. Once you’ve made your toffee, it’s a quick and easy dessert to assemble. My guy’s resounding “Yum!” and nod of approval said it all.
