OK - I listened to all the comments about "too waterery" "not enough time cooking to thicken" etc. I MADE IT TONIGHT - ALONG WITH THE CHICKEN.
CORRECT - an hour was NOT enough time to thicken the sauce - mine cooked for about 2 1/2 hours and was perfect. I omitted the salt after reading how much salt was in the BBQ seasoning and added a little cayenne and hot sauce for a kick. Also - tell me where you can find a tomato paste in 8 oz ???? The can comes in 7 oz. so I added a little ketchup rather than waste a whole can of paste.
It was a GREAT BBQ sauce - I have plenty left over for other uses. The chicken came out perfect - first time I brined!
Recommend this recipe - thanks Claire!!!

Love this sauce. I have been trying to find a homemade BBQ sauce for months and have not liked any that we tried. They had to many ingredients and got very costly. Made this with pantry staples loved it. This is my new sauce of choice. Not planning to buy jar sauce anytime soon.

GREAT bbq sause. I used Emeril's Southwest Dry Rub for the bbq seasoning mix. It was AMAZING.

This sauce was the perfect addition to the dry rubbed BBQ chicken. I had never made sauce before, but it was so simple. I agree with the post below that it took more than an hour to thicken up, but it's definitely worth the wait.

My sauce required a little more cooking time for it to get thickened -- but let me tell you, whew -- is this sauce good! Tangy, sweet, with a slight kick... thanks, Claire, for the great recipe!!! :D

But I loved the roasted peaches, and wanted to try the whole dinner.
I was so happy with it! I love this sauce and the recipe was enough for 3 dinners with my family.
I used it once with the dinner from the show.
I used it once with my home-made roasted chicken.
I used it once with grocery store rotisserie chicken.
Then, I made it again the next week!
I used it on meatloaf.
I used it on hamburgers.
Now, I am preparing it again, and am putting it in the crockpot with chicken and potatoes.
Thanks for this recipe, Claire!

Although this receipe is high in salt, I am more worried about the ingredient listed on McCormick's Grillmates BBQ Seasoning. What the heck is acetic acid? I think I will skip this recipe and look for another.

Hi Madeline,
You can find BBQ seasoning at the grocery store, in the spice aisle. McCormick has one called McCormick Grillmates, Barbeque. It is really good, but I'd start small and build on the flavor by adding more to taste.
Hope that helped!

I halved this recipe and had plenty for dinner. I also cooked it down more so that it was thicker. My husband doesn't like most bottled BBQ sauces and he ate it all (and asked for more!
