My husband just keeps saying "so good, so good". You knocked this one out of the ball park Claire! I couldn't get dark beer so I used regular and added a 1/4 teaspoon cocoa to get the rich flavor otherwise it was easy and perfect.

I've braised beef arm roasts for quite some time with great success so was excited to try this recipe. I had never thought to braise chicken before, I guess because it really doesn't need a long cooking time. This was so pretty plated on the show and I had most ingredients on hand so thought I would try it. I will make again, in cooler weather, but with a few changes. I did not use a whole chicken quartered but use rather "pick of the chick", a mix of breast, legs, thighs. I should have went with my instinct to just use thighs the breasts were a little dry. I followed the cooking times. I believe that the chicken was pretty much cooked by the time it was browned according to the directions and did not need that much cooking time. The thighs were perfect. It also may have been the beer I used, but I really did not taste the fennel but did taste the beer. Next time I will use a milder onion to replace the fennel. But, it was my first time cooking with fennel so was fun learning about it and I will probably try it again in another dish.

This recipe looked so delicious on the show that I made it the night after I watched the show. I left out the fennel (don't like the flavor and used 2 yellow onions instead. I used bone-in chicken breasts, also. I added a few cloves of garlic to the beer and chicken before it went into the oven and added a pat of butter to the sauce before I spooned it over the chicken. It was fantastic! The chicken was falling off the bone, and the richness of the sauce was complemented very well by the smoky saltiness of the bacon.

Simpy delicious. This was my first time cooking with and eating fennel, and I have to say it was great. For the beer, I used Killian's Irish Red - it's my husband's favorite and the flavors it created were excellent. I also made beer biscuits with it, and they were a perfect compliment to the chicken and sauce. To make them, use 2 1/4 cups baking mix (bisquick, 1 cup beer (I used the Killian's again, but I've used light beer before and they turned out just as good and 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar. Mix all three ingredients together until the baking mix is all absorbed (dough will be sticky. Plop onto a baking sheet (it should make 6-8 good sized biscuits and bake at 350? until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes. I'll definitely use this recipe again!

I made this today after watching the show. I didnt have the fennel, so I used a large yellow onion, and also only had bone in skin on breasts. Used an Alaskan Amber for the beer. (one of our favorates, but can't wait to try with the smoked Chicken came out with good flavor and moist, I want to try the fennel. I bet that would give it the flavor meant in this dish. Very nice, easy dish that will inpress all guests that come over.

After watching this episode this morning, I decided to give the Beer Braised Chicken recipe a try. Not only is this recipe super easy, but good enough to serve guests. I ended up substituting white onion for the fennel since I didn't have fennel on hand, but added anise to make up for the licorice type flavor. I also used boneless chicken breast. While cooking the bacon I added apple cider to the pan. This gave the bacon a nice sweet carmelization. The crumbled bacon looked gorgeous when sprinkled over the chicken breasts smothered in the pan gravy on a nice white platter. I will definitely make this again!
