I made this recipe and found it to be extremely easy to make. It was fairly inexpensive being that most of the items were pantry items. I do understand why some reviewers would say it turned out grainy because I had to use a mixer instead of a whisk because the mixture started to separate. But, once I did that it turned out perfectly. I did leave the mixture over the double boiler for a couple of minutes after adding the sugar and continued to stir to help it dissolve. It is a very, let me repeat that, a very rich dessert and I used the salt to what cut the richness. I also added ice cream to help the bitter sweet chocolate. I used smaller ramekin's because this recipe is so rich that most people can't eat a whole one, so i made a lot of small one's.

Don't bother! It was very disappointing. We watched Claire make it on TV and it looked so simple, how could this fail? But it did! It didn't make a cake consistancy at all. It was all wet and grainy! Super waste of money, time and effort! Sorry Claire, it was a complete disaster!!!

I was interested in this recipe after watching 5 Ingredient Fix one afternoon. My husband orders chocolate lava cake all the time at restaurants and so I knew he'd enjoy it. Although I'm a competent baker, I always thought this would be a much more involved recipe to do at home. It was SO easy! I even made whipped cream and topped with fresh raspberries. My husband loved it and wants me to make it every night. LOL
My only issue was how much butter there was. Between the butter in the chocolate mixture and the butter coating the ramekins, the cakes had a pool of butter around them (does absorb a bit as the cakes cool. I'd probably use cooking spray on the ramekins next time to cut down on the fat just a bit.

I did not have ramekins so I used a muffin tin, which created 1/2 size portion control : !/2 the chocolate in the middle as well.
I dusted them with powdered sugar, have leftovers...some had with ice cream and some with whipped cream...
I will make this again, and I love the minimal ingredients : Budgets these days are shrinking, and we can't afford extravagant, out of the ordinary spices and oils.

I just finished making this recipe and it came out wonderfully. I had to allow the ramekin to cool before I plated this awesome cake. It was fast and yes it was soft in the middle but it set up beautifully. I made sure my chocolate was very warm and I made sure I whisked it constantly until it became smooth which took no time at all. I will serve this again for a small setting-It was divine and I followed the directions to the letter and it came out great. I did add just a very small amount of ice cream to this dish and it made a little to sweet for my liking but it was still WONDERFUL & most of all QUICK!!!
Thanks Claire-You are batting a THOUSAND with me.

This recipe was super simple and the cakes turned out great! I plan to make them for a dinner party soon. I topped the cakes with confectionary sugar, Hershey's syrup, and a scoop of ice cream. Thanks for such a great simple chocolate lovers' recipe

This was wonderful! I saw Claire make it on Food Network and wanted to try it. Well, it's four months later and I wanted a perfect CHOCOLATEY dessert for a dinner party for my friend's birthday. OMG... this was awesome. I'm really not a chocolate fan (sacrilege, I know, but I do like lava cakes. This was easy to make and really delicious. It was rich, so I split one. My chocolate loving friends (one likes dark, the other milk chocolate loved it. I served it with strawberries which was extra delicious, though not necessary. I may put powdered sugar or a glaze on next time just to make it extra elegant. I will be making this many times in my future.
