I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a big hit. My boyfriend who is not a big veggie person, love it! Like others I added more mushroom, I also added some minced galric to give it a little extra flavor. The "original" green bean casserole makes me cringe because I think it masks the true flavor of the beans, this helped the bean shine. This is a keeper of a recipe and will be worked into everyday living! Happy eats!

I saw this recipe around Thanksgiving and thought........WOW.....REAL INGREDIENTS instead of coagulated condensed disgusting cream of mushroom soup. THIS ROCKS! Much more flavor -- REAL INGREDIENTS and 10x better than that condensed soup garbage. :- This is a keeper! (And I'm A SNOB

My friend brought this dish to our christmas party. Wow....it was half way gone in less than 20 minutes. And mind you we had a lot of meat lovers at the party. But these veggies found the way to their hearts! Love it!

Everyone enjoyed this casserole, but I would recommend the following tweaks: (1 just scratch through the "about 2 tablespoons" regarding the mushrooms, an obvious misprint; (2 reduce flour to 1T; (3 add 1/4 cup of milk to the mushrooms after cooking out the flour; (4 increase the sour cream to 12 ounces; and (5 cut the green beans a little shorter than 2 inches to help keep portions intact when serving. I'm not a fan of the traditional holiday green bean casserole, with the soup and canned onion stuff, so I was excited to see Claire's presentation, but the measurements seemed off after simply reading the recipe. I proceeded knowing I'd make the changes mentioned, and the result was great.

Finally there is a green bean casserole recipe that the entire family loves. It was very easy to make and none of the ingredients were hard to find.
I did a test run following the recipe exactly and it was very good. However I thought the beans minus the toppings were a little bland. On the second batch I seasoned the beans very liberally with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper before applying the toppings. After I added the sour cream and mushroom mixture I used a silicone spoon to smooth it into the beans. This made for a more consistent casserole that was easier to serve. The extra salt and pepper really helped the beans on their own too.

I made this with pork for a weeknight dinner and it was really really yummy! I used a shallot instead of the onion and I added a bit more mushroom and sour cream because it didn't seem saucy enough. It turned out really good and my husband loved it. He is already asking me when I am going to make it again.

The measurements in this recipe were totally off! I doubled and tripled the mushrooms, corn flakes and just about everything else and it was still dry. It looked so good on tv. I was very disappointed!

I decided to try this for Thanksgiving. I used a bit more mushroom.....and maybe a bit more onion......gave a rough chop to the mushroom so you could see and know what it was if you cared to. The onion I chopped finer. The thing that is bewildering to me --- b4 I made it --- and after I made it --- is why do you need to add flour and do a bit of a roux? Sour cream is plenty thick enough --- truly it is thick enough without it. So for those inquiring about the lack of sauce and a stodgy dish -- YES..... I agree -- but it's an easy fix -- use your good old culinary sense and don't add flour to thicken anything. Add your sour cream and thin a bit with milk or cream to desired sauce consistency and season as you like -- add the cheese and crumbly topping of choice -- wha-la -- it will be absolutely delicious. I had rice chex on hand -- crushed and added parmesan and some bobby flay's mesa curry powder mix -- for extra kick -- the results were awesome. I think what's so yummy is the freshness of the beans....the real mushrooms... and you can't go wrong with sour cream ever....updated easy green bean casserole for sure ;-

It was very good. However, the cheese was not gooey and melty.
