I made this rice one night and I didn't have the basil, so I used cilantro instead. After reading the reviews I think that the cilantro/avocado/lemon combo is better than basil.

I love basil, avacado, lime so the thought this combination was appealing. However, it was the worse side dish I have made in two decades. Almost turned me off of basil, which I love. Wasted a perfectly ripe avacado, two actually...Hated it, threw it out! Don't waste your time, money or energy on this recipe...

ended up throwing this dish out! I gave this recipe 3 stars because the green sauce was delicious on its own- everyone agreed that it would be great cold in a pasta salad but in a hot rice dish it was gross.

I made this rice with only one change- I used regular long-grain rice instead of Basmati- but it was super super yummy! I didn't feel the need to add more avocado, basil, etc. I will surely make this recipe again.

You are a genius! this is a very creative way of cooking rice. Light, healthy, and fluffy, i substitute your basil to cilantro and add a dash of cumin and i add red onion with my puree avocado its is heaven. For those who did not get it may be they just need to explore more of how to eat good and or culinary knowledge may be huh? I bet you all cannot even create something like this.

After wading through reviews, I did change a few things up with this recipe based on some of the complaints. I used 2 avocados, 1/2 a lemon with zest, and slightly less basil. I blended 1 green onion into the sause and also added mint leaves and a tablespoon of rice vinegar. Salted and peppered that to taste. A second chopped green onion was also added to the rice. I thought all the flavors came together well with nothing overpowering and it was definitely not bland. Enjoyed this dish as a new/different compliment to salmon. There was no rice left on anyone's plate and a few second helpings. It's easy to make and will do so again.

Made this recipe, but found out that you cannot substitute certain ingredients...lime juice does not work in place of lemon juice and dried basil is not as good as fresh basil. Managed to salvage it by spreading the rice mixture over a steak.
