I have to add my opinion here: these were indeed absolutely delectable. And I can tell you if you overlook the part about caramelizing and totally browning in oven, they are still delicious. I did roast them, but was thinking they just needed to be tender.

Love it, pre-chopped the sweet potatoes the day before, made triple the amount and roasted in shifts about 5 hours before the meal, then rewarmed it all in the serving dish at 375C for about 20 minutes. It was outsanding! I also did a small dice and roasted for 20 minutes so when it reheated, the potatoes didn't turn to mush but kept their shape/texture. It was really good and my international guests loved it (first time sweet potato eaters. The balsamic vinegar is genius and keeps the cloying sweetness to a minimum. This will be a staple at Thanksgiving from now on!

The combination of the maple syrup and the balsamic vinegar becomes sweeter when they cook. It is a perfect compliment to the carmelized shallots and sweet potatoes. I am going to add this dish as one of my staples!

New addition to our Thanksgiving meal. Enjoyed by all, had to use onions instead, delicious!

Very good. The balsamic and maple glaze makes these sweet potatoes. I took a risk in not making my husband's family favorite sweet potatoes from a can with lots of brown sugar and marshmallows. I received many compliments and they now have a new family favorite.

These are the BEST sweet potatoes I have ever had! I saw Giada make them on the video listed above. Took a while to find the recipe on this site. They will be a part of our Thanksgiving menu this year!

This is very yummy. Great new way to eat sweet potatoes. I used a local maple syrup, although not grade B, but it was still a perfect hot, sweet combination.

So good! I had sweet potatoes on hand and was looking for a new recipe- since i had everything in my kitchen ( except shallots- i subbed an onion it worked out perfectly. It wasn't too sweet and was easy to make! Even my boyfriend liked the dish = success

I loved this recipe...I may sprinkle some sugar on the potato's towards the end of the cooking time and carmalize it when I cook them again..

Grade B maple syrup has more maple flavor you can find it at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and most health food stores.
