This is the best sweet potato recipe I have ever had! Will be serving this with Thanksgiving Dinner!

This recipe was amazing. Definitely need the longer time to carmelize the onions, as many have said. And a food processor makes it easy! I actually used low-sugar syrup to help with calories, and it was still delicious. Great leftover too!

Yes Virgina, there are some typos in this recipe. It takes 20 +/- minutes to caramelize onions and you wouldn't need to add water after they were taken off the heat, but instead during the cooking time if the pan is cooking too hot and drying out before caramelization is achieved. You do have to add water to get them to whip but not necessarily to just mash, it just depends on the finished consistency your looking for.
Aside from the mistakes in the written recipe, So good, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

delicious but time-consuming if you don't have a large food processor

Great recipe but next time I would use half an onion, then puree half in the potatoes and have half for garnish. I love that it doesn't have a ton of sugar like most sweet potato recipes.

These sweet potatoes are DELICIOUS! The only thing is that I had to add a good 1/2 cup of water, and maybe even more, to get them to blend into a nice smooth puree. But it didn't dilute the flavor at all. I also had to cook the onions for way more than 2 minutes, but did not have any problem with them being dry. I will be making this recipe over and over again!

I loved this recipe! Silky texture and rich flavor. The onions were an added bonus! I cooked them for close to 20 minutes. I halved the sweet potato part since there are just two of us, but I made the whole batch of onions. Even though he loved the onions, BF thought the mash was too rich for him, so I got them all to myself!!

I've never written a review but had to for this recipe to say I am WEAK from the delicousness of this dish!! I thought the prep was pretty quick. The ingredients were simple, and produced such amazing results. I don't have a food processor, and I love a good lumpy potato, so I just mashed them with a hand masher. I loved that texture. So good, I have to make more!

I love this recipe! The maple syrup and carmelized onions were wonderful with the sweet potatoes. Not too sweet. Very easy to make.
