Made this yesterday for lunch and served with grilled cheese sammies which was simply delicious!! I am always amazed that 5 ingredients can be so tasty!! I used whole wheat bread instead of sourdough, other than that I made it exactly as she states and it was not at all acidic. The basil really makes it I think. Great recipe and one I will repeat!

The soup was yummy!! I only added a little minced garlic and some Parmesan cheese. Also a little chopped green onion on top when serving. I'm not a tomato fan and I loved it!! I used Roma tomatoes and it was full of flavor. I have no idea what all the acidity comments are about. Maybe they are super sensitive. It's yummy and easy, be sure and try it!!

The soup was delicious! I couldn't believe how hearty and good it was. I am super picky with my tomato soups. This took a place in the top three.

There were a couple of slight additions/changes that were made: I tossed the bread in a about 1/2 cup of olive oil and 1/3 cup of butter and shredded some parmesan in a pan bringing it to a slight crostini toast.

To the sauce, I added a splash of heavy cream (1/4 cup and about two table spoons of crushed red pepper.

I made it it came out Perfect but since I have a house full of men I added about a half about to a pound of smoked Sausage to and i found adding sugar about a table spoon to the sauce helped to cut the acid down it may have started as a 5 item dish but no one ever said it had to stay five and that you could not have fun with it i know my family loved it my Husband put cheese on the top of his and said it was perfect So i really plan to keep making it

This could have been the worst tomato soup I've ever had the displeasure of eating. It's far, far to acidic. If you're going to attempt to make this, make sure you put a sweet'n'low packet or two in, along with a healthy serving of cream, and you might save yourself an ulcer.

Very acid soup. We were unable to finish our servings and threw everything away. A waste of time and effort.

Soooo yummy, I had to grate some Fontina cheese on top I know that makes it six ingredients, but it also makes it super perfect!!
