Bourbon! The missing ingredient, until now. Thanks, Claire!

Made the beans today and served them along with the brisket from the show. The beans were a bit al dente, but that was the nice thing that made them seem fresher and a bit healthier than canned baked beans.
I didn't want to stir every 20 minutes so after I coated in bacon fat and added the other liquid and brought it to a boil, I put them in the crock pot in the morning and cooked them on low for 9 hours. I stirred a couple times, but that was it.
These were really good and the bourbon added a nice touch. My family loved them and people asked for seconds.
One note--I used great northern beans vs. navy beans. They turned out fine.

I wish I had cheated and used canned beans, maybe this would have been worth eating! The beans cooked for 6 hours and are still hard when biting into - they look like Claire's did, but taste horrible. What a waste of good bourbon!

The longer the beans cooked the sweeter they tasted. Didn't need to add any salt or pepper. Very easy recipe. Will make again. Cheated and used a can of navy beans-didn't have any dried beans. Drained and rinsed the beans and followed the recipe.

This recipe took a while, but was sooo worth it. It's a down home side, that only took five ingredients, and was easy on the wallet. Love ya Claire keep doin what you do!
