I came across this recipe in looking for something close to one I used to have. This is the closest thing to what I had. I changed up the prep since I have made buttercream frosting by adding the sugar after the butter, milk and salt. I have added the Vanilla last but I don't think it makes a difference. Great Recipe! Loved it! :-D

I loved this icing. I added another stick of butter, a little more vanilla, and added the milk a little at a time because it will get to runny if you use all of what the recipe calls for. My friends loved it! So much better than store bought icing. It is very sweet, so if your not a big fan of super sweet this isn't the icing for you.

I love this recipe. My first time ever making a buttercream icing and it came out perfect. Although I did make a minor adjustment, along with the (clear vanilla extract I added 1 tsp of Maple extract and it gave it a very creamy wonderful taste and got rid of that "too sweet" taste. Although dont use it if you want the buttercream to be pure white. Mine came out an off-white color to it.

This was a very good icing only thing to watch for is how much milk you put in cuz if you use the half cup it comes out runny. I liked it.

I've been taking cake decorating classes and have learned a trick for making icing taste not so sweet.....add 1/4 tsp of almond extract. Happy icing!

Great flavor, but too sweet. Next time I will reduce the sugar.

I USED THIS RECIPE BUT ADDED AN EXTRA CUP OF BUTTER. I ALSO ADDED SOME MAPLE EXTRACT FLAVORING. I USED IT ON AN ANGEL FOOD CAKE. EVERYONE JUST RAVED ABOUT IT. YOU COULD USE ANY FLAVORING YOU WANTED, TO PUT YOUR OWN SPECIAL TOUCH ON IT. I ALSO BEAT IT ON MEDIUM SPEED ON A LG KITCHEN AID MIXER.

My mother took a box cake and covered it with this icing. The recipe says it covers two 9-inch layers but after some shaping my mother got to cover three with some left over for decorating. It turned out beautifully. The only reason I give it four stars is because it's a little too sweet for my taste. Otherwise with it's simplicity, ease and quickness it would be five star in my book.
