I first had black and white cookies in Germany and I never found them anywhere else. This recipe is wonderful. The white icing was a little too sweet, but I that's a personal preference. The cookies themselves are soft and moist, and once you get the hang of icing them, they look great. I served some to my in-laws and they couldn't stop raving about them. I make these cookies whenever I have the time. Making them is pretty time-consuming, but they are worth it.

This is not what I was expecting at all. I would not recommend to anyone make these cookies.

I make these cookies all the time. Every time I make them people just love them. They are really easy to make. I was really surprised the first time I made them, because they are almost like a cupcake. They are really soft and moist. I still follow the white frosting recipe as is and it is very good. The black frosting I cut the shortening in half. It tends to get a little waxy. I may try butter next time in place of the shortening.

This is a good recipe and not to complicated.

Not exactly what I wanted, but they weren't too bad.

These are the best black and white cookies I've ever tasted! The cookie is soft and really flavorful and the "frosting" doesn't get any easier! I just melted the chocolate in the microwave. Make a double batch - you're going to love these!

Just reading this recipe sent my mind into a whirl! These instructions are very unclear...and I used to work at a bakery as a cake decorator!!!

These were sooo yummy, just like the ones I buy at the bakeries and I followed the recipe exactly how it was written. The only issue I had that I'll try to fix next time I make these is that the chocolate was a bit hard. Maybe I'll add a bit more shortening? Anyone have any suggestions?

I've just begun baking after getting a new Kitchen Aid mixer. These cookies were easy to make and came out beautifully. It's a little tricky for a novice to ice them, but mine looked great even so!
