I just loved it,you gotta try it for yourself, but try it with chocolate cake instead with red velvet cake,I find it I like it better with the chocolate cake, love them anyways.

The recipe says to add 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder but she verbally instructed to use 2 tablespoons on the show, i think that's why there are bad reviews about the batter being bland. I used 2 tablespoons and they came out fine, but i used my own cream cheese frosting recipe for the filling

This was the first time for me to make whoopee pies. The batter came out just fine and after reading the reviews of this recipe I adjusted the filling by putting one cup of granulated sugar in with the cooked flour/milk custard and a cup of powdered sugar in the buttercream mixture. My only mistake was to make the first batch of cookies too big. They turned out great! LOVE 'EM!

I have an old old recipe with the same ingredients as this recipe (from the fifties for whoopie pies. When you are mixing the flour and butter parts together for the filling, my recipe calls for whipping it 15-20 minutes. It makes the filling fluffy and breaks down the sugar so it is not gritty. Also when making the cookie part I use a small ice cream scoop to scoop the batter onto the cookie sheet - which makes for uniform shapes. My grandkids love this recipe.

I made this recipe today for my kids. However, the filling I attempted 3 times, to no success. The filling kept breaking on me. I ended up buying a frosting to put inside whoopie pies. I have been cooking since I was 8, I am now 52 but could not fiqure this out.

I was scared w/this recipe! Alot of steps, though once started-all went way smooth! A couple of adjustments were made (after reading reviews: 2 TBS cocoa, not tsp., used just over 1TBS food coloring. Make sure you cook flour/milk until well thickened and then cool completely. Mix/then whip for great consistency.I matched like sized (most were uniform after they cooled, put some of the filling and WHOOPIE ; THANKS PAULA

I am making these for Christmas. Before I made them, I read all of the reviews (both here and on Paula's own website in addition to watching her make them on her show. In a nut shell, my cookies have come out great!!!! Yes, they are slightly big but oh well they will be that much more yummy with a cream cheese filling. To the woman who said to use three tablespoons of cocoa, it's not three but two. Rewatch the video and Paula says to use two tablespoons. I also used the entire bottle of red food coloring like Jamie used and the color is perfect. More importantly, use a small ice cream scooper. But most of all, after I put six cookies on the cookie sheet, I've covered up the batter and put it back in the refigerator to keep the batter firm. Bobby Flay recently had a show about whoopie pies and that is what he did instead of them running all over the pan.
