Maybe I'm not the sushi aficionado that some who've reviewed this recipe claim to be. But I do know when I see someone take a traditional concept and make it their own. I made these last night and they rocked! I'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi (freshness and there are some things I just won't eat, but these were a bit different from the crab rolls I typically get and I loved them. Will be making them again, in fact I'm thinking of having a party featuring these recipes and my own lettuce wraps. Should be fun! And an extra bonus... They're gluten free :

I rarely review recipes, but after watching Giada make this roll on TV, I was sadly disappointed. On the TV show, Giada recommends picking up sushi rice from a local sushi restaurant. I taught myself how to make sushi from Japanese cookbooks. The rice is very important in sushi, and is flavored with a delicate sugar/vinegar/salt/mirin recipe. It must be body temperature to roll properly, not too cold or too hot. By the time you bring home sushi rice from a restaurant, it would undoubtedly be too cold to use. On a positive note, this recipe does get people to try making it at home.

This was, for my families taste one of the best Sushi adaptations we have had. It was simply delicious and very easy to make. I read the reviews before wading in, but just couldn't understand why this combination of ingredients would not be awesome, It was much better than I had imagined and it will be included whenever we are making sushi. My family sort of gets an assembly line going anytime we make sushi. It really works out great because everyone gets to add their choice of ingredients.
We adapt our own Southern recipes to our own taste, so ,why not explore with any ethnic food. Some of the criticism was no doubt from those who don't enjoy variety.

I don't know what went wrong for the people who gave this a negative review because this sushi turned out awesome! I'm pregnant & have been craving this for 2 days since I saw the show. It met & exceeded my expectations. Plus it's a great way to satisfy my sushi craving without eating the raw fish that is dangerous during pregnancy. The brown sugar and mango goes great with the crab, so don't hesitate to follow this recipe exactly as written! Thanks Giada!

Yes Giada is Italian but ANYONE can make sushi it is so easy. She said she was doing research?! Are you kidding? What research did she do? That was entirely too much rice for 1 roll, and you don't lay it on the mat, you lay it ON the nori leaving space on the top and bottom, you DONT have to wet your knife every time. I am so embarassed for her. The combo of crab, mango, avocado might be good but... ahh... i am just stuck shaking my head. There are so many things so wrong here.

Yikes! Come on FN and Giada you've got to be kidding. I love you and most of your recipes, but this is pushing the envelope. Stick to what you do best. Brown sugar in sushi?? What would Morimoto say??

    Giada,

You are great but please show us how to make food you know how to make. Your sushi episode made me embarrassed for you.Not only was your roll sloppy but the other dishes you called Japanese was more Vietnamese inspired (the spring roll.

Not trying to be mean here but you lose legitimacy when you show us how to make something you clearly don't know how make.
