This recipe gains a 5 from me for it ease, not heating up the place in 100 degree weather and authentic winter comfort food taste I had a crazy summer craving for. I made it at my camper this weekend and the family loved it and funny part is I had all the stuff on hand. The only thing I added was 1/2 t of nutmeg and 1/2 cup of diced onions. I cut back to 1 c milk because I like it thicker.

Okay - so I read all the reviews BEFORE I made this dish. I completely left out the butter and paprika - and I left the lid on the crockpot for the entire 3 hours and 15 minutes. Once it was ready, I simply stirred the mac & cheese and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! I had no curdling or seperation - OMG - awesome!!!

much like some of the other reviewers - followed the recipe directions to the letter however; the result was horrible! threw it out. I believe there are other slow cooker recipes that will give you a better result and with way more flavor. If you look at the reviews with high ratings; many folks "tweaked" the recipe...a sure sign the orignial recipe needed help...love Trisha however; not this recipe.

ABSOLUTELY YUCKY, I followed the recipe to the letter and was soooo disappointed that I not only wasted the money but the time (10 minutes to make it.....there was no flavor, it was curdled, it looked like dog vomit, I would NEVER try it again, even tweeking the recipe won't help.

This is for terryt04 and anyone else who had issues with grittiness and curdling and excessive oil. I've had that problem before and I realized after a lot of trial and error that it has a lot to do with the type of cheese that you use. Always use block cheese that you grate yourself. The pre-grated cheeses have stabilizers that cause it to curdle and separatet. Also try not to use aged cheddar because it doesn't melt as well as regular, which makes it gritty. Once I figured out those two things, my cheese sauces and my mac n cheese turn out perfect and custardy every time.

Tasty? What did you think?I made this today for our potluck lunch. It was a big hit!!!! I cut the shredded cheese to 4 cups (1/2 cup left for the top, and added 8 ounces of Velveeta (substituted Colby Jack for the Cheddar, add another 1/2 cup whole milk and omitted the eggs (by accident. I forgot to take them to work where I put together the recipe.
I don't normally share with others something I haven't already made, but it's a keeper! Actually, I believe it will be a request.
All you naysayers don't know what you're talking about. Try it again without the eggs. Yes, I had to remove some excess grease, but it's cheese!! What do you expect?!?!?!
