I read most of the reviews and found that a lot of people had problems with this. I took this into consideration with a few of the more credible sounding reviews. First of all - temper your eggs with a little bit of the hot pasta water and wisk well. Let the pasta cool a bit in the crock with the melted butter so it won't stick. Then add the rest of the ingredients. If you find it too runny make a slurry with milk and cornstarch and add the last hour of cooking - came out great.

I followed this recipe almost 100% perfectly and used good cheese and it came out a hot mess. It was totally curdled and the oil had separated leaving globs of cheese. The only change I made was I used one egg instead of 2 b/c Paula Deen just about ruined me for mac and cheese with her addition of 6 EGGS in a recipe but that couldn't have been why mine went so bad.

The Ambassadors at the Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University loved this extremely easy, portable dish. I had so many requests to share the recipe that I finally emailed it to our entire group. It did curdle even though I whisked the liquid ingredients as many suggested, but, as far as I am concerned, it was just part of the charm. I really look forward to trying more of Trisha's recipes.

My dinner guests really enjoyed it, took home copies of the recipe. However,I did make the recipe exactly as stated ... w/slow cooker, but for some reason it curdled . Will try baking it the next time, to see if this helps with the curdling issue.
Welcome Trisha to the Food network ; will certainly be trying more of your recipes .

I thought it sounded and looked good when she showed it. However, it lacked flavor and was greasy. There was nothing to absorb the butter and it sat on top of the dish while baking and then ran through the food when you dished it up. I did like making it in the crockpot, but will use a different recipe next time.

I made this dish tonight and I was extremely disappointed. It was watery and looked curdled. I will never make this dish again.

This is the best mac & cheese ever. I baked it in the oven and did overcook it a little, but it was still great.. I experimented a little with the left over and froze it in a one serving size container. I thawed & heated it in the micro a few days later and it "was almost" as good as the day I made it. Will do it in the crock pot next time, which will be next week when we have out of town company. Thanks for a great show.

OMG! I made the Mac & Cheese that Sunday after the show and it was the best I ever ate! I have been looking for this recipe for a long time. It was easy and very tastie.
My 15 yr old son, who is very critical of anything new ate 2 helpings! I loved the fact that I didn't have to heat up the oven and I love crock pot recipes.
I was very moist and cheesy. I will make it over and over again!
Love the show, thanks for sharing Trisha!

I couldn't wait to try this recipe. It was delicious and so simple to make. My husband and I could not keep out of it. It reheats in the microwave well. I tried another Food Network chef's crockpot mac n' cheese before and I did not care for it. This, on the other hand, will be the ONLY macaroni and cheese recipe I will make!!
