I used this recipe for leftover dark meat turkey by substituting it for the beef/lamb, used chicken stock and white wine instead of Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste and beef stock, and added dried sage and thyme. Very tasty, quick and easy. I think white meat would have been better than the dark, but that's just me. I'm sure the original recipe will be excellent as well and plan to try it next time.

Delicious! Used suggestions from other reviewers (doubled amount of tomato paste, added more garlic. I also added more Worcestershire sauce than the recipie called for. Mixed paprika and red pepper flakes into mixture before adding the mashed potatoes to give it a kick. In the potatoes, subbed vegetable broth for the sour cream and sprinkled the potatoes with parmesan cheese prior to putting it in the oven. Also used Veggie Grillers Crumbles instead of beef. Made it for a dinner party where it was gobbled up in a matter of a few hrs!

One of the best Shepher's Pie I ever had! Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because I followed the suggestions of other Reviewers, and changed a few things to make it perfect. Used 2 Tablespoons of tomato paste, 1/2 cup of beef broth and 1/2 cup of red wine and threw in about 1/2 tsp of Rosemary. My husband doesn't like peas, so I substituted corn. Otherwise followed the recipe and it was absolutely declcious!

If I had followed this recipe as stated, it would have been incredibly bland. OK for kids perhaps but less than thrilling for adults. I doubled or tripled the amount of garlic, worcestershire, tomato paste, plus added red wine, thyme, and oregano, and I *still* thought it was bland. I had a much better shepherd's pie at an Irish pub once which had a richer, darker, saucier, more flavorful base to it. Would look around at other recipes before making this again.

Made this into a vegetarian dish by substituting 2 lbs beef with 1 lb ground meat substitute(Morning Star worked best and 2 cups baby portabella and vegetable stock instead of beef. Also doubled tomato paste. WOW, it turned out great! Best review always from picky 14 yr. old, who wanted it in packed lunch for next day!

This recipe is a keeper! My boyfriend literally licked his plate clean this was so good. I used extra tomato paste and beef stock to round out the meat mixture and make it more saucy. I also made a couple changes to to cut down calories. I swapped beef broth for the cream in the mashed potatoes. Instead of mixing 1 cup of cheese into the potatoes, I topped the pie with cheese (using less than 1 cup. Even with the cut backs this was amazing and easy to pull together on a weeknight.
