Cooker beware! This recipe requires way more time then what's posted. It took me roughly 3 hours in total when you factor in preparation, cooking, and a little light cleaning in between. I was a little upset I chose a weekday evening to prepare this meal because I think the prep was exactly what it says 15 minutes! No way! Look at the recipe for the meatballs alone. That's 15 minutes by itself.

I'm not a fan of the recipe overall. It was a let down especially after the time that went into it. I was something new and I'm happy I at least tried it.

I really love this soup! The only thing I would change is the size of the dumplings as they can be rather tough. Very tasty!!!

Very good. I didn't have beef stock so used 1 qt vegetable stock and one qt water and beef bullion. Turned out great. Not sure if I would like it as much w/all beef stock. I also had my dumplings turn out like rocks. Then I checked all my other dumpling recipes (I have never had this problem before and they all have 1 Tablespoon baking powder to 2 cups flour....makes me think the 1 teaspoon in the recipe is a missprint! Just sayin'.

A very tasty and hearty stew. Definately increase the beef stock to 3 quarts. I also recommend paying close attention to your choice of mustard: make sure it's not too hot or too mild. The blend of flavors is great! First to hit you is the combo of barley, lentils, and beans. Next is the sweetness of the meatballs. And finally the tangyness of the dumplings. I'll definately make this one again!

Although this meal was different...it was tasty. I would, however, add less dijion mustard due to the fact that I am not a fan in the first place and it ended up over-powering for my taste. This meal cost me close to $50.00 for all the ingredients, therefore, I will probably never make it again *unfortunately*.

Left out the dumplings, but otherwise stuck to the recipe. Very yummy! Also freezes well - enjoying it 2 months later and it tastes as good as the day I made it.

The recipe is very time consuming. There is not enough broth, the dumplings were not good. Just an O.K flavor.

Having some ground turkey on hand, I decided to test this recipe. It sounded
interesting . Read the comments, so added extra broth. Shared some of the soup with others in the family as my husband & I could not finish off this quanity.

Everyone, including my husband raved about it. Threw in some black beans, as I felt it would not hurt. It didn't.

I suggest anyone in the mood for a good soup, tasty & easy to make try this one out.

I was a little skeptical about the raisins and if it would be too sweet in a "soup" but I made this for my sons and they just loved it! I couldn't find ground turkey so I used ground chicken. The barley thickens it up and the sweetness of the meatballs is Perfectly balanced with the rest of the soup. If there's not enough 'broth' for you just add a little more during the cooking process, definately follow the recipe and this will be gone in a flash!

I made this soup for a gathering of friends, and many of them are picky eaters. The meatballs were especially delicious with the golden raisins in them. The only thing I would change is that there wasn't nearly enough broth to go with all the other things in the soup.
