I made this yesterday after seeing it on the show this past weekend. I used a 1/2 cup of applesauce instead of the water. Also I noticed on the show Dave says 1 tsp. of vanilla and the recipe on here says 1 Tbsp. So I went inbetween. Also instead of layering the apples I just mixed them in so there are apples are in every bite. YUMMY!

The cake turned out really good. The batter was very wet so I made sure not to add the liquid from the apple mixture. I also did not have a bunt pan so I used a 9x9 pan. The edges turned out a little burned on top. If you don't have a bunt pan, I recommend chopping up the apples and making muffins. I think they would cook faster than the whole cake- which took about an hour and 20 min. I had to place some foil over the cake after an hour so the whole thing would not burn. Don't forget to turn it around half way through the baking process.

This is a great cake. It has everything! The fruit adds a great spark to the heavenly pound-like cake. This cake was easier than a mix to prepare and tasted like you worked for hours. I have been taking it everywhere getting raves and, I think, because of the cake, being invited to alot more picnics!

Being from apple country in NC I'm always on the hunt for recipes using apples. Being a baker for 40 yrs. there are certan things I always do so I used Baker's Joy on my pan, secondly I sifted my flour & baking powder. I thought that 3 layers of apples was too many when I saw the show so I only used 2 layers. My cake came out perfect in 60 min. and has a wonderful flavor. Very good warm with whipped cream.

WARNING-- this recipe does not work. Batter very wet. Too many apples. DO butter pan regardless of what David says because it stuck like glue to my non-stick bundt pan--.

Had to pry it out of the pan and throw the whole thing away.
