The only thing I changed in the recipe was using diced tomatoes instead of whole because I already had 2 cans of those handy. I also used 2% milk. My husband and I loved this dinner! It was just as good the next day for lunch : I will be making this again. Its a great dish if you have company since its so rich and creamy, plus it makes plenty.

I cooked this last night and it was a delight. I cut the fat by using skim milk and reduced fat cheese. I would have liked a little more detail in the instructions -- like how the onion should have been chopped or what exactly parboiled pasta is. Next time I plan to use diced rather than whole tomatoes to help them break down in the sauce. The bechamel sauce was the star of this dish! I'll definitely make this agin.

Great recipe. Thanks to other reviews, knew to cut down the onion. Got around the comments that it was too dry, by using tomato sauce instead of chopped tomatoes. Goofed and only did one layer of the bechamel in the middle, but it worked out nice. Will do same again. Liked it with just cheese on top. Didn't have the cheese Dave used, so did half smoked mozzerella and half regular. Was excellent. Thinking of trying this with mushrooms instead of meat next time. The family really liked it. Even the difficult to please. Good to try something different, and great when it works out. Yum!

I can say that this recipe was a great contributor for making a good impression to the love of my life. I wasn't much of a cooking person but I had to be ready for our first date which tool place at my home. I remember that I had recorded this recipe so I decided to try it. Bingo! I threw this together for a potluck dinner and it was the only thing completely gone at the end of the night.

I agree with the others on a few changes for next time; a small can of Tomato sauce and maybe adding 1/2 lb of sweet / hot sausage in lew of the all 2 lbs of meat.

Quick, easy, really good flavor and I can accomodate to my taste. I added a little less onion but made more bechamel, and made more tomato sauce adding more tomatoes with 2 lbs. beef. Last night my daughter picked up her baked "to go" dish and called later and told me she loved it. I ate mine layered into a bowl and microwaved, then refrigerated sauce, bechamel and rigatoni separately and finished up this morning and froze.

Great recipe because most people have these ingredients in their house all the time. Tried it one night- boyfriend is not a fan of onions so I substituted with some onion powder and a handful of Parmesan cheese for the bechamel and it still had wonderful flavor and was just as creamy. I also used 1/2 Smart Balance and 1/2 Butter, which worked fine. My only complaint--I was a little disappointed with the lack of tomato taste in the final meal. Next time I will substitute with marinara sauce. Other than that, it tastes great and makes great leftovers for the next day!

I substituted spicy italian pork sausage the first time and it was fantastic, and the second time I made the recipe I substituted spicy chicken sausage, which was equally fantastic. I haven't tried it with the beef yet - I just prefer a little extra spice. Very good and easy!
