Very simple, tasty, low cost recipe. Most of the ingredients you will find in your pantry. I make this vegetarian style (no bacon or vegetable broth and is still very flavorful. For toppings I use cheddar cheese, low fat sour cream, cilantro, hot sauce and fresh lime.

Holy cow! This soup makes me look like a genius in the kitchen! So easy and beyond packed with flavor. Of course, bacon makes everything better!

An amazingly delicious and healthy soup. I poured off most of the bacon fat, and I didn't use sour cream - did use a bit of cheese on top. I used HOT chili powder, and added cayenne and chipotle powder on top of that. We love heat, so this made it just right for us. Wish there were nutrition notes posted for this.

This is wonderful and very easy to whip up in just a few minutes. I make it whenever I have a couple of strips of leftover cooked bacon. Today I made it using leeks instead of onion, because I needed to get rid of the leeks. I don't use canned tomatoes anymore due to the BPA issues, but a few chopped fresh ones worked just fine.

the best bean soup ever, several modifications can be made due to personal tastes, like the level of heat, but the main ingredients are all keepers.

Excellent flavor, pretty easy soup. Made it exactly as outlined, only change I made was adding two diced chipotle peppers I had in the fridge for a little kick. Agree with everyone's comments that its more like a chili than a soup, but very hearty and flavorful and perfect for cold weather. Served with corn bread + my husband loved it. Will definitely be making this again!

This soup is amazing! Next time I might cut back a little on the bacon, but even so it's incredibly flavorful. Yay SOUP!

Absolutely delicious! After it was done, I pureed part of the soup and then mixed it back in. I gave it a thicker consistency (cooked it in the crockpot though. Everyone loved it!
