Absolutely delicious! After it was done, I pureed part of the soup and then mixed it back in. I gave it a thicker consistency (cooked it in the crockpot though. Everyone loved it!

Great! I did not add the bacon drippings but did add the bacon. Trying to keep as much fat free as I could and eliminated the sour cream since I could not find the fat free. Loved it!

Made this as written (did not increase stock or decrease beans and it was delicious! Used smoked bacon from Whole Foods, which rendered less than 2 T of fat, so no need to drain grease. Never got to the lime juice, cilantro or sour cream (soup was good without them but will try them next time.

Quick, healthy, and delicious!! A definite repeat! Considered other's reviews and doubled the broth and cut back to 3 cans of beans. Didn't have cilantro so didn't include it. Served over wild rice, which made the dish even healthier!! Next time I will brown the bacon ... I didn't like the light uncooked looking color of the bacon floating in the soup, but it still tasted great!!!

Just made this for the first time tonight....

Read the reviews and made the following adjustments. Used regular thick cut bacon with a small amount of liquid smoke. Cooked it crispy and drained off all but 2T of bacon grease. Doubled the chicken stock because several people indicated the soup was more like chili w/o increasing the amount of stock. Cut back the cilantro by half which was plenty. Added 1/2t of cumin because I like it. And, ended up using the juice of an entire lime vs 1/2 lime..... The lime juice really made it for me.

Simply FABULOUS!! Extremely flavorful. Add some crusty bread and you're in heaven. Great recipe :-

best black bean soup ever. Whenever I try to make this recipe without following the directions, my husband always says "something is missing". I now follow it exact every time. Its a big hit in my house for a picky husband. A few times I have put smoked paprika in this recipe and its really good but you cannot use too much. its pretty strong stuff.

best recipe ever. I keep sharing it with friends.

Dave Lieberman's Black Bean Soup is out of this world! I work part time and take care of the meals for my husband and three son's ages 11, 13 and 16 years. My eleven year old won't eat beans but the rest of us LOVE this recipe. I also make the baked brown rice food network recipe and we put it in the soup. Its simply amazingly delicious. There was a smidgeon left and I am hiding it to eat lunch tomorrow. Thank you Dave!! This one is a definite keeper!

My family and I all loved this soup. I did make a few changes as others I used more broth, two boxes and I added one can of Rotel and I added some cumin, smoked paprika and poultry seasoning. Very good! I also blended a few cups of the mixture and added it back to the pot and I thought it made it so creamy and rich.

Very tasty. Wife loved it. The second time I made it I let the bacon slightly crisp and left just enough fat to coat the bottom of the pan. I added it back at the end. I also used a half tsp of smoked paprika and dropped the lime juice. Finally, I used an extra can of black beans. I used 1/4 cup of the liquid and added 4 ounces from the simmering beans and put the immersion blender to it. Added it back and it had just the consistency I was looking for. Now I need a southwest cornbread recipe.
