LOVED the black bean soup. And even though it takes less than 30 minutes (eat your heart out, Rachael Ray, it tastes like you've been cooking all day. Wonderful flavor, great recipe. Thanks, Dave!

I made this with turkey bacon and no beer, as I am doing Weight Watchers. I also left out the cilantro because my family doesn't care for that flavor. This soup was great! I calculated it at 5 WW points per cup...it made about 8 cups of very hearty and healthy soup. I give it a top rating!

I followed the directions exactly, except I didn't have a garlic press so I minced the garlic. The soup is fantastic! It is the perfect bachelor chow: cheap (everything but the bacon cost less than $1, very easy to make, and one batch will last me almost a whole week. It's good enough to make for your family, or for your special lady on a cold winter night. The soup is also very vesatile. Add a can of corn if you want, or a chile pepper, or leftover chicken. It turns out amazing every time.

I put this soup together in no time and my husband, who refuses to eat veggies and beans, attacked this soup until it was gone! The secret is lots of cilantro and lime juice. It is so hearty that I serve it as a main course. And, like stew, the soup is better the next day, and even better the day after that...Thanks, Dave!!!

My husband and I made this recipe along with the spicy corn muffins tonight. It was wonderful for a cold night.
