Oh my goodness is this delish. It's so easy and versatile. We are veg so used fake bacon bits and liquid smoke to achieve the "smoky flavor" along with carrots and spinach for additional color. My family raved. This will be my go to black bean recipe from now on.

Yummy and rediculously easy! I like the recipe as it is but often add extra veggies. I make a batch about once a month and freeze individual portions for lunch during the week. People always ask for a taste/bowl and the recipe!

Just finished making and tasting this wonderful soup. I followed the recipe with the following substitutions. I used a can of Rotel mild tomatoes and dry cilantro. I used maple flavored bacon. This was so easy, fast and full of flavor. I can only imagine how great it will taste tomorrow.

This is a great receipe!!! However, you are suppose to rinse the beans. I watched the program and he said to rinse the beans - the receipe says not to rinse the beans - typo error. I have foumd that many times the recipes that are printed here differ from the TV show. I always follow the the TV program directions. The only changes I made was that I cooked the bacon and then drained it - too much fatty oil. Then I returned it to the pot and added a tbsp of olive oil and then added the onions, scrapping the bottom of the pot to lossen all the bacon particles stuck to the bottom of the pot. Also, I used 6 cloves of garlic. It was so deliscious.

OMG! Just finished wiping my mouth. This was so easy and delicious. I used Ro-Tel Original diced tomatoes with green chilies and added a little extra chicken broth. Pureed about 3 cups of soup then added back into soup to make it nice and creamy. This is a keeper. Thanks

I have been making this soup since I moved into my first solo apartment in college some 4 years ago. Instead of using all plain black beans, I found that adding 2 cans of Ranch Style black beans and 2 cans of regular makes all the difference....also, don't skimp on the bacon...spending a few extra bucks on a good smoked bacon makes a world of difference. I also add a can of Rotel in addition to the canned tomatoes as well as the juice from 2 large limes (gives it a lovely tangy flavor. This recipe goes quick, so have all of your ingredients prepared and measured. I've shared this recipe with all of my family and friends and it is an absolute must for winter and football parties....I feel lucky if I even get to enjoy a bowl to myself because it goes soooo quickly! IF you get the opportunity for leftovers, the flavor of this stew just gets better over time...so enjoy!

Fabulous!!! The bacon and onions needed to cook for more than 4 minutes though.

It was delicious! My customers loved it, I was looking for something easy and fairly last minute, the only thing I changed were the beans, I didn't have canned so I used the dryed ones. ( I cooked them first of course!

We're doing a soup exchange at my work, with the intent of doing healthy and vegetarian soup recipes. I made this for my week, and it was so well reviewed everyone was asking for seconds, and scraped the pot clean. I made it the night before (with extra veggie stock, and only three cans of bean and then heated it in my crock pot today. Fantastic! Thank you!
