Working in restaurants for 13 years, I have eaten a lot of black bean soup and this is not what I expected at all but it was really good despite that. This is the second recipe I have tried in recent months for soup that really turned out more like a stew than a soup.

This is the first recipe I've tried of Dave's and it was absolutely delicious. The smokey flavor of the bacon combined with the spice of the chili powder will warm you right up on a chilly evening. The lime and cilantro add the perfect finishing touch. You can't go wrong with this one!

this is the best tasting black beans recipes I've ever had. It's got the perfect spices. I used hickory smoked bacon and it was awesome. They couldn't get enough of it. I also added two extra onions, and was great. i highly recommend this.

My boyfriend and I both enjoyed this soup. I would cut the amount of cilantro way back. I only used half a bunch of cilantro and I still thought it was a little overpowering. Other than that, an excellent recipe with a lot of flavor.

This was a decent recipe. I made it pretty quick and it turned out pretty tasty. I think that the addition of sour cream and some cheese is a must with this dish. Overall I was satisfied.

I'm allergic to Cilantro (It tastes like soap to me so I've made both versions with and without. I enjoyed both. My friends who enjoy black bean soup much more then I do loved it. I had to add a little liquid smoke because good hickory bacon is hard to find in my area.

For added heat I recommend some of Dave's Insanity Sauce, roasted red pepper hot sauce.. gives it a nice smokey heat.. (Toasted arbol pepper sauce works well too

I am glad to see that Dave's recipes really deliver. Made this for dinner (July 3rd '05 really good, even on a warm evening. I used progresso blk beans, diced tomatoes w/ jalapeno, & only 3 slices of bacon. To get a smokey flavor I used 2 hickory smoked fresh chicken sausages out of their casings. A little olive oil was needed to brown everything up. Red bell pepper, carrot, and celery also got thrown in. I cut down on the about on cilanto & added a little for garnish. Slice up a lime and a lemon so everyone can squeeze it on themselves. Fresh salsa is a nice contrast to the heat of the soup. There were no leftovers, enough said!!!

I forgot the ketchup and the worcestershire, but the taste still came out great. I think in the future I'll be sure to cut the onion finer and actually press the garlic (rather than just rough-mince it for a better look.
