I'm eating this right now and it is so freaking delicious! I didn't use the bacon, I just started sweating the onions in some olive oil. I used soy sauce instead of worcestershire. Also, I omitted the sour cream and cheese (I'm trying to save on calories. I also omitted the cilantro because it's not one of my favorite flavors. I bet it would be even better with the bacon, sour cream, and cheese, but honestly it doesn't taste like it's missing anything. Very good.

I really wish I had some french bread or cornbread to eat with this. It is really, really delicious. It is very thick as one commenter noted but I like it better that way.

I was hesitant to make a soup using canned beans but decided to try it based on the reviews. I cut back on the bacon, chopped it up and cooked til very crispy, set aside & added it back in at the end. Otherwise followed the recipe pretty much as printed, used little more chicken broth, added cumin. Pureed 1/2 of the mixture and then added back in to rest of soup. My husband loves it! Definitely a keeper and quick/easy recipe.

I must say like most of the other I did enjoy this soup recipe, although I think it should have been called " Cilantro Black Bean Soup". This is because I think a bunch of Cilantro as the recipe calls for is too much! It totally changes the flavor of the soup to a heavy Cilantro back. I do like Cilantro but it is too overwhelming. I would have rather sprinkled some chopped cilantro on the top as a garnish. Also, I would add double the amount of broth than the recipe calls for otherwise it is way to stew like.

OMG! My daughter asked me to make a black bean soup...found this recipe, and followed exactly ('cept I forgot the lime juice, but you couldn't tell! So Delicious! The cilantro really makes it taste FRESH! More like a stew than a soup! Definately making it again, real soon! Have to keep hubby out of the pot, so I can save it for my daughter!

Wow! This soup was amazing. I made it with diced tomatoes with garlic and onion and omitted the cilantro. It was so good our family of 3 had no trouble finishing it in one sitting. Next time I will double the recipe.

Great, easy recipe. I added 1 chopped red pepper. I didn't have chicken broth so I used 1/2 cup tomatoe puree. I used 3 fresh chopped tomatoes. Also added cumin, red pepper, chilli pepper, red pepper flakes. Yummy and easy!!!

I have been making this soup for a couple of years and it is amazing. Having vegetarians in the family, I totally omit the bacon and substitute olive oil (maybe 2 -3T. I follow all other ingredients exactly except add 1 T of ketchup (2 tastes a little too sweet for me and around 2-3 cans of chicken broth or chicken bouillon. 1 can of broth makes the soup too thick, I like it more soupy. Also, I simmer the soup for approximately 1 hour covered, then add most of the cilantro, cook for another 20 minutes and add rest of cilantro and lime juice, then cook for another 10 minutes. Take off fire and keep covered and let the soup sit until time to eat. For those who are vegetarians or cutting fat from their diets, believe me you won't miss the bacon. I keep getting asked for this recipe all the time.
