I scored the potatoes before boiling them and added twice the butter when they were done. Also, I used dill weed (not fresh dill and they turned out just fine. Very good and very, very simple!

This is the best potato side we've made. If you don't use fresh dill, you aren't doing this dish justice. Even supplementing a half and half dosage of fresh and dry will do the job. We also use chopped chives, which I believe he used in the show, but isn't listed on the recipe. My only recommendation would be to score the potato skins before boiling in order to facilitate their breakdown during smashing. The taste of this recipe is a perfect complement to either beef or pork dishes. Its not overpowering, but the dill's subtle flavoring goes a long way.

Potatoes just are not my thing. My husband and son liked it though. I'm sure it would have been better if I were a good potatoe cooker. Without this recipe I'm afraid for what could have happened to my potatoes. The flavor was a little bland and I probably will kick it up a notch or two next time.
