I really wanted to make these for St Patty's Day but it would have been kind of expensive buying all of the ingredients. Not to knock this recipe! Thought I'd share that I used a $1.50 box mix (Duncan Hines - Dark Chocolate Fudge and used Guinness instead of water and they turned out GREAT!
I also made a killer frosting with 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup butter, and an airplane-size bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream.

just finished making these. read many reviews and adjusted the batter (only by using dark chocolate powder and adding 1/2 cup of coffee to wet ingredients and the frosting (less cream 1/2 cup and added sugar a little at a time until the sweetness I liked. didn't let stout get to room temp so butter pearled. batter was super runny, so I was worried, but cupcake came out ok. I'm not a huge sweets fan, but hubby is thrilled I bought a KitchenAid and am now baking. We'll see how long this phase of mine last :

I really love this recipe. I've made these cupcakes twice and both times they turned out moist and delicious. I swear these are the most chocolate-y cupcakes I've ever had! I used Young's Double Chocolate Stout in the recipe. One note: the frosting recipe tastes great but it makes way too much for these cupcakes (frosting is too soft to really pile it on so you don't use as much, which I don't mind

they were great, loved by all that tried them. To the person that used a box mix and WATER...why bother with this recipe, all you did was make reg chocolate cupcakes...its about the added beer.
Will make again and try a different liquor for the frosting..

I made these cupcakes earlier today, using Guinness Stout. They are delicious and I haven't even added the frosting yet! Not sure if I will use this frosting recipe but I think they will be fabulous with whatever frosting they end up with. I didn't find them "beery" at all, just chocolately and good. no complaints.

These were a big hit. However, please note that the LARGE mixing bowl should be used for the wet ingredients, not the dry. Also, make sure the Guinness mixture and the melted butter are both at room temperature. Otherwise the butter quickly turns into clumps, and will affect the integrity of the batter. I added chocolate chips to the batter before putting in the oven- to add moisture and increase the chocolate flavor.

I used Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, weighed each cupcake out to 55g and they were perfect. Puffed up beautifully, great crumb and perfect moisture. The beery chocolatey flavor was perfect.
Didn't use the icing recipe so this review is based solely on the cupcake.

Horrible!!!! Maybe I did something wrong but one comment was right, it was like a chocolate cake soaked in beer. Moist? Absolutely. The icing was great. Overall, the taste of the beer overpowered the whole cupcake. It tasted like spoiled pudding. I will never make it again.

I made these for a birthday party at a bar. My friend devoured them. They are excellent.
