These cupcakes are amazing. I have baked them on several occasions, and they are consistently wonderful. I have also used several different kinds of frosting, and home made german chocolate frosting is delicious on these cupcakes. I will never use another chocolate cake recipe again!

I make this into a cake using a 13x9 nonstick tin, and it is the softest, moistest cake ever. This is my Go To chocolate cake recipe and I even have a friend that asks for it every time he sees me! This is the ONLY chocolate cake recipe I use, so thanks Dave Lieberman!

We have really enjoyed these cupcakes. Very easy to make and superb to eat. I found there was way more frosting than I could use so we added more after each bite!!! I highly recommend them.

They smelled so good coming out of the oven we ate them before they were frosted. The next day the frosted cupcakes were even better. This recipe was so easy!

when these first came out of the oven and i tasted them i was SO disappointed, they tasted like chocolate cupcakes soaked in beer.
HOWEVER, when i went to eat one the next day it was so good i didn't even bother with the frosting!
really moist and the beer flavor became part of the cupcake instead of being overwhelming.
I did not use Guinness, I used Brooklyn Lager Chocolate Stout that I had leftover from a superbowl party, not sure if that makes a difference.
My only issue with them is that they are moist to the point of being almost sticky, so they didn't de-pan as easily as most other cakes I have made and a few had to be coaxed out with a knife, also i (overfilled a standard 12 count muffin tin and had enough batter left over to make a thin layer in an 8 inch round cake pan, so the yield is definitely a bit higher than 12 cupcakes, in the future i would make this in a cake pan.

Very easy to prepare, smells great while baking, but just not as good as I was hoping for. Moist yes, but too spongy and honestly just not that chocolatey. Tasted best still a bit warm without the icing, which is very sweet.

I'm not the hugest fan of Guinness, or beer in general, but I like how liquor/coffee tends to add a rich depth of flavor to chocolate desserts, and figured the same would be true of Guinness. I was right! These are really yummy. The only change I made was I used only about 1/3 cup of cream for the frosting, and added about 1/2 tsp of vanilla to it as well. The frosting is too sweet on its own (I'm a beater-licker but with the cupcakes it's a nice combo, since the cupcake itself isn't overwhelmingly sugary. I'd still use less powdered sugar next time though.

Also, the baking time seems to be a little longer than it needed to be--at the first 12 minute mark my cupcakes looked nearly done, so cooking for another 12 minutes made them a tiny bit more dry than I think they should/could have been. This is unusual since with my oven I usually have to cook everything longer. So next time, I'll cook 10 minutes, then rotate the pans, and cook 10 more, and that should be perfect.

This is the second year I've made this recipe for St. Patty's Day. It's definitely a crowd pleaser! I think adding the full box of powdered sugar makes the frosting way to sweet, so I only used 3/4 of the box. Also, I added some great food coloring to the frosting which made it very festive!
