I made this with Splenda and it was delicious. I used dried cherries instead of raisins and added walnuts. There are never any leftovers, since everybody always wants seconds.

Soak raisins in hot liquid, liqueur,
liquor, or juice to enhance the flavor
    of the strudel.

I made this for a party. It was so good. Instead of raisins, I added dehydrated cherries (1/2 cup. I also added cinnamon. It was very good and too simple.

Thank You Dave - you are the best! This recipe is so easy and unbelievably delicious! I made it so many times already, and each time it is perfect. I make one with the raisins for me, and one without (my husband and son do not like raisins, both are delicious, and when we have people over, the strudel is always finished. Love you Dave!

This was a very easy and quick dessert to make and my husband and I both enjoyed it quite a bit. He's not a raisin fan, so I left those out and found it was fine without adding anything as a substitute. I did add a bit of cinnamon and nutmug to the filling as several other reviews suggested. Didn't have a fresh lemon - used about 3 Tbs of lemon juice from a bottle. Next time maybe I'll experiment with other fruit combinations, although the classic apple was quite good.

I was so excited to make this recipe.
My husband did not like all the raisins, way too much.
It got tossed & wasted since it jsut didnt turn out as good as I thought.
Love Dave but not this one.

I made this with refrigerated pie crust since I didn't have any puff pastry available and it was delicious! Sprinkled the top with powdered sugar when finished. Love you Dave!

The recipe makes a great struedel, but if you like yours a little richer, I suggest a cream cheese topping. I mixed 6 oz. cream cheese, 1 Tbs apple jelly, 1 Tbs. melted butter, 1 Tbs. confectioner's sugar, 2 Tbs. flour, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, and a dash of salt, mixing to smooth paste. Spread over the apple filling. I also only covered about half of the top with puff pastry, exposing the cream cheese topping. You could also throw some sliced almonds over the top.
