Two tablespoons of "sazon" not accurate. On the episode, she puts two ladles of homemade sofrito (crushed veg, onion, pepper and lots more, which she is calling sazon. Many people use the word sazon to refer to the Goya seasoning packets of the same name, and many people do also add these sazon packets to pollo guisado, but what SHE added was NOT the seasoning packets. Thank you for adding the sofrito "sazon" recipe to the page as that is a critical piece for replicating this recipe!

First, it's important to note that the recipe suggests tasting the water for salt after only partially cooking the chicken. It's important that any beginner cooks know that they should not taste for salt until the chicken is cooked through and adjust accordingly. Now on to the review! I made this after watching the episode, it looked delicious! And it did not disappoint! It is extremely important (I think to make your own sazon! We do not typically care for cilantro in my house, but this is amazing! In the show she uses 2 ladles of the sazon and I wouldn't use any less. I actually use more. The 2 tablespoons written in the recipe could be deceiving to some if they haven't seen the episode. Anyway, my 7 year old extremely picky eater loves this dish and requests it, which makes me extremely happy! The only other meals he requests are mac n cheese and pancakes ; He needs to be gluten free, so the fact that I can make this, he loves it AND it is gluten free rocks.

Amazing recipe...I made this dish as directed and everything was perfect. The beans and rice really complimented the dish. Would not change a thing...Keeper!!!

Made this with only a few changes, instead of bullion cubes and water, I substituted chicken broth. Bullion cubes contain MSG this flavor enhancer can cause allergic reactions in some cases, for me it triggers migraine headaches. We substituted accorn squash for Calabasas. Chicken tastes better than that I've had in any restaurant. I will recommend this dish to anyone. Very tasty, time was pretty close to recipe.

Thank you Dee Dee, Matte T.

this was a hit at my house. I used chicken breasts i had on hand and a cup of homemade salsa then just added dried oregano. the sauce was a little thin so i stirred in a couple of dabs of butter and let it reduce a little. Loved it!!

This was a really delicious recipe. I tweeked it ever so slightly. Before adding the sazon or sofrito, I got my pot super hot. I seasoned the chicken with salt, pepper, and a hot paprika then I browned it all over in the hot pot. I took the chicken out and set it aside while I sweated the sofrito. I then added the tomatoe paste and stirred everything together for 1 minute. I then added chicken stock and the spices then I returned the chicken to the pot and cooked as directed. The sauce was so delicious we didn't use the sauce intended for the rice and beans, we used the sauce from the chicken instead. This one's a keeper!

I didn't see this on TV so I tried it as the recipe is written. My only change was to reduce the amount of oil and to cut out the bacon (all to save on the fat & calories. I loved it! I found Sazon seasoning at the grocery store and will now keep it on hand -- my new favorite spice mixture! I poured the sauce over the chicken and that took care of any lack of flavor some people complained about. This may be the best rice & beans I've ever made. I didn't like acorn squash growing up but wouldn't use anything else in this.

This dish was lacking in taste and zing (and salt since the directions didn't specify an amount and warned about adding too much. In addition, the recipe itself did not include one of the main flavor component, a sofrito that the author labels as sazon seasoning. I found it on her website (pujolskitchen . com. I had trouble getting my chicken to brown and the sauce was WAY too thin, so I removed the chicken and reduced the sauce. This helped, but still...it was lacking. I was really quite surprised.

the chicken was not worth it for me, it smelled incredible at first but in the end it just lacked flavor. the beans on the other hand, were fantastic!! i will definitely be making those again and again.
